Position: Laser Safety Officer, Operating Room - 1 position

Location: Operating Room
St. Joseph's Hospital - London, ON
Employment Type: Regular Part Time
Salary Range: $47.59 - $56.00 /hour

The Laser Safety Officer will be accountable to lead and manage the laser safety program (and associated energy) for St. Joseph's Health Care London. This program would include the safety program for Operating Room, Research, and Ambulatory Clinics. The position will also be responsible for other clinical areas in the organization where laser and other energy sources are used. The Laser Safety Officer will ensure compliance with the laser safety policies for non-interrupted patient care, patient treatment, and research to avoid any legislation breaches.


Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BScN)
  • Valid registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Additional documented training specific to laser safety (Laser Safety Officer certification/designation) from a hospital-approved program or willingness to complete the program with recertification every 2 years
  • 5 years progressively responsible leadership experience, preferably in a healthcare environment
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Expert knowledge of applicable legislation and Acts
  • Knowledge and experience in developing and implementing policy and regulatory documents
  • Knowledge in implementation of legislation - Occupational Health and Safety Act, CSA standards, and the Ontario Building Code
  • Knowledge and experience with record keeping and data maintenance and audit
  • Knowledge in providing learning programs and using presentation software
  • Experience working in a multi-site environment and with senior levels of organizations, governments, and professional associations
  • Demonstrated behaviors supporting our Core Values of Respect, Compassion, and Excellence
  • Participatory leadership style with the ability to foster collaboration, shared direction, and work with teams of highly skilled professionals

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • 5+ years in working experience involving laser and laser safety

Teaching and Research
  • St. Joseph's Health Care London through its affiliation with Western University and Fanshawe College is a leading research and teaching hospital. Immunization Requirements
  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine (primary series, boosters, and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
