One in five people experience a mental health concern. Located at Alberta Hospital Edmonton, the Young Adult Evaluation, Treatment and Reintegration Service (Unit 12-A) is a short stay, fast paced 20 bed Acute Care psychiatric program for medically stable clients who are between 17 and 26 years of age. The Psychiatric Aide is an integral member of the Unit 12-A collaborative team. The unit is part of the Adult Acute Services portfolio of the Edmonton Zone Addiction and Mental Health program. We provide patient and family centered care, with all team members working within the CoACT collaborative care model and the Addiction and Mental Health - Edmonton Zone Principles of Care. As a Psychiatric Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs as well as assist with organized activities or programs. In this position, you will observe and report on a patient¿s mood, health, well-being, maintain effective communication with patients and health professionals, assist with the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors as well as assist in the general support of the work area.

Completion of Grade 12. A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered.

Two years' recent (within past three years) experience in Addictions and Mental Health. Non-violent crisis intervention training. Sound observation and strong verbal communication skills. Positive attitude and the ability to work effectively in an Acute Psychiatry setting. Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to adapt quickly to changes in daily schedule and patient needs. Working knowledge of patient and family centered care principles.

Working knowledge of the CoACT model of care. Working knowledge of trauma informed care.
