Reporting to the Director, Professional Practice for Nursing, the Lead, Advanced Nursing Practice works in partnership with Corporate and Integrated Health Services (IHS) leaders to provide leadership, facilitation, and coordination to a variety of strategies that support the development, implementation and evaluation of Advanced Nursing Practice for Clinical Nurse Specialists [CNS], Certified Practice Registered Nurses [RNc] and Clinical Nurse Mentors in Island Health. This includes but is not limited to: the development, implementation, and evaluation of Advanced Nursing Practice models, standards, quality practice and supportive learning environments, professional development, and education within Island Health.

The Lead, Advanced Nursing Practice establishes partnerships and working relationships with organizations external to Island Health that have an impact on Advanced Nursing Practice. This includes, but is not limited to professional organizations (e.g. BCCNM, NNPBC, CAN and other associations), post-secondary institutions, and other Health Authorities.

Functional reporting relationships:

The Lead, Advanced Nursing Practice will have a matrix reporting relationship with all current and future Clinical Nurse Specialists in the employ of Island Health by providing practice support and oversight, while the day-to-day reporting in operations is supported by the site/ program Administrative Leader/ Director where the CNS provides clinical care.

The Lead will also have responsibility to monitor and evaluate, in collaboration with operational leaders, the scope of practice of all current and future Clinical Nurse Specialists and RN Certified Practice nurses in Island Health.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education, Training And Experience

A Master's degree in Nursing from a recognized university is required. A minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience with three (3) years of recent, related experience/ specialization in specific area of practice, recent, progressive experience in administrative and advanced nursing leadership roles. Comprehensive understanding of current thinking related to practice, leadership, care and service delivery, budgets, project management, change and quality improvement. National certification in program area and previous leadership roles/ teaching experience an asset. Current practicing registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
