With community housing providers and all levels of government’s increased involvement in solving the housing crisis driving demand for affordable housing solutions, SHS Consulting is expanding. They are seeking an experienced Development Manager, Affordable Housing, to join their team and lead impactful affordable housing development projects across Ontario.


The Position

As part of SHS Consulting's Housing Development Practice, the Development Manager will oversee all stages of affordable housing development projects. This hands-on role includes project planning, feasibility assessments, budgeting, financing, construction oversight, and occupancy planning. The role demands strong organizational skills, financial acumen, and a commitment to delivering high-quality results.


The Development Manager will oversee projects from start to finish, ensuring timely completion for clients. In addition to project management, they will conduct financial feasibility reviews, manage budgets and financing, coordinate legal agreements and funding proposals, secure municipal approvals, and lead community consultations, marketing strategies, and project occupancy efforts.


Position Requirements:

  • Completion of post-secondary education in fields such as urban planning, architecture, engineering, business, real estate finance, construction, or related disciplines.
  • Proven track record of 3-5 years in real estate development, with a strong preference for experience in residential development.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in preparing comprehensive feasibility and market studies, including pro forma capital and operating budgets for real estate projects.
  • Thorough understanding of key financing and funding programs essential for affordable housing initiatives.
  • Proficiency in gathering, analyzing, and presenting demographic, economic, and financial data in detailed and compelling reports and presentations.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, for creating infographics and presentations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, adept at prioritizing tasks, multitasking effectively, and managing competing demands.
  • Membership in professional organizations such as CIP, OAA, PMP, or LEED AP certification would be advantageous.
  • Valid driver’s license required for travel as needed.


Location

This is a hybrid position requiring 2 days per month in the office located at 77 Bloor St West, Toronto and occasional travel to client sites in the GTA.
