We are currently looking for a Payroll & Benefits Specialist at our Corporate Office in Ajax, Ontario

This role is classified as "Hybrid" with a minimum two (2) day in office requirement.

Responsibilities:

Payroll
  • Support Payroll Manager with processing of bi-weekly payroll including onboarding of new hires into Dayforce, processing final pay calculations for terminations, review overtime reports for processing, manually update contractor hours and upload to Dayforce, process cost center changes, calculate retroactive payments, manually produce Records of Employment, updated Savings Plan changes in Dayforce (pension, RRSP/TFSA).
  • Back-up Payroll Manager on all payrolls (bi-weekly & monthly) and step in for Payroll Manager as needed when Manager is out of office or focused on other group projects.
  • Experience establishing SOPs for the payroll department and streamlining manual processes.
  • Responsible for GL postings, responding to accounting inquiries as required.
  • Extract and verify employee hours using Kronos – including manual updates for shift and overtime hours.
  • Update payroll system with ongoing lease changes (eTag) for company vehicle program.
  • Update and recalculate taxable benefits for assigned drivers using eTag reports, excel and Dayforce.
  • Assist employees with system password resets.
  • Strong sense of service orientation, supporting employees and managers with payroll related inquiries.
  • Assist Payroll Manager with International Workers and related Third Parties Administration to align with annual Tax Statements.
  • Assist Payroll Manager with all year end activity (T4s, T4As and T2200s).
  • Time Away From Work support (approving and updating vacation requests, running of reports).
  • Other Payroll & Benefit related projects as they arise.
Pension & Benefits Administration
  • Perform monthly reconciliations.
  • Activate pension and benefits for new hires, administer changes, update coverage, collect forms, work with third party providers and act as liaison.
  • Respond to employee inquiries and questions; redirect to appropriate resources as appropriate.
  • Work with HRCs for employees going on approved leaves of absence (mat leave, approved leave, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Post Secondary education in Payroll Administration, Accounting or related experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years in similar payroll support function.
  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) or working towards completion.
  • Knowledge of Employment Standards across Canada and Payroll compliance legislation.
  • Prior experience with Ceridian Dayforce is a must.
  • Knowledge with SuccessFactors would be considered a strong asset.
  • Advanced Excel and reporting skills required.
  • Knowledge of Accounting and Accounting Principles including the recording, analysis, and reporting of financial information.
  • Prior experience administering multi-divisional plans is required.
  • Prior experience dealing with 3rd party providers is required e.g. (benefits, EAP, etc.).
  • Proven ability to handle a fast-paced environment and work within tight deadlines.
  • High degree of attention to detail and accountability.
  • The ability to manage confidential information with tact and diplomacy.
  • Bilingual English/French a definite asset.
  • Highly organized and can manage competing priorities.
