Reporting to the Vice President of Finance, our Quarry Park location in southeast Calgary, is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant responsible for regularly scheduled accounting activities including high impact accounting entries, such as inventory valuation and market to market entries. The Senior Accountant will elevate items of significance to the management team and participate in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives inside and sometimes outside of the finance team.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Cash management including processing payments, cash flow forecasting and liquidity management
  • Manage working capital including cashflow projections, external borrowings, and intercompany loans
  • Prepare, journal entries, account, and bank reconciliations
  • Develop and maintain relationships with banks, customers, other finance counterparties, and stakeholders
  • Measurement and reporting of foreign exchange exposure
  • Apply appropriate accounting standards for operations
  • Month end closing and preparation of financial statements and analysis for Management
  • Implement integrated system to support Trading, Facility Operations and Finance
  • Support the development of an effective governance structure through creation of relevant policies
  • Ensure tax compliance including preparation and filing of GST returns
  • Participate in annual budgeting, periodic reforecasting, and management reporting
  • Establish appropriate licensing and reporting requirements for GCC
  • Ensure transactional integrity with the GrainsConnect system
  • Develop back-up support for all finance processes
  • Source opportunities to deliver on-going value-add initiatives or improvements
  • Assists with ad hoc financial analysis and on new and existing projects

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Essential

  • Designated Accountant
  • Team Player
  • Minimum 7 years accounting experience in large, complex organization
  • Strong systems background in complex multi-dimensional/systems environment
  • Strong financial accounting background
  • Excellent leadership, people management and communication skills
  • Analytical skills
  • Ability to operate in a “hands-on” environment
  • Ability to be pro-active in improving systems, processes, procedures and control environment
  • Ensuring integrity with the GrainsConnect systems
  • Time management to meet month end deadlines

Desirable

  • Advanced ability to adapt to a variety of business supporting software
  • Relevant industry experience, i.e. Logistics/Agriculture/Commodities
  • Microsoft Dynamics Nav/365 Business Cetral knowledge
  • Solver reporting

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Degree in Finance or Accounting
