Position OverviewAs a Mechanical Field Manager, you will play a significant part in the success of Ganotec. You will function as a field supervisor and may have responsibility for multiple foremen, and/or laborers/craft workers in addition to any sub-contractors assigned to the work. You will be responsible for the organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specifications, workmanship, and assignment of work to accomplish the execution of the work, either directly, through foremen or through subcontractors onsite management.
You will also work to maintain positive working relationships with clients, architects/engineers, suppliers, subcontractors, and jobsite staff. District OverviewGanotec is a full service, heavy industrial contractor serving the industrial sector across Canada. Ganotec typically self-performs all major disciplines including civil, structural steel erection, heavy mechanical equipment installation, process piping, and electrical/instrumentation and controls. We conduct our business through a variety of commercial contract styles including full turnkey, EPC, design build, T&M, and conventional discipline packages.
We have always been a strong proponent of “partnering,” working in collaboration with owners, major equipment suppliers, and engineers at the early stages of the project development phase to allow for a more cost-effective execution strategy for the project. LocationThis role will be based on the Union Station project in Toronto, ON.
Responsibilities- Daily review and confirmation of sub-contractor crew activities
- Assist in the coordination and planning of projects in a particular construction area.
- Oversee all operations relating to a specific discipline/segment of work
- Ensure the scope is clearly understood between all stakeholders
- Direct discipline craft supervisors/sub-contractors on site
- Perform daily inspections of work performed
- Provide job safety training and awareness for personnel
- Establish budgetary guidelines for the job, and ensure that cost control measures are being followed
- Establish quality standards of all jobs, and ensure that all quality assurance and company standards are being met
- Manage and confirm information within the BIM Model is up to date and accurate
- With assistance of the Project Engineer ensure that any subcontracts are administered as intended.
- 8+ years' construction experience with 3+ years in a Mechanical Superintendent/Manager/Leadership capacity
- Undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
- Experience with BIM a must, 3-5 years preferred
- Experience working on rail projects highly desirable
- Ability to oversee multiple disciplines such as steel, piping, mechanical
- Must be a self-starter, highly motivated with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to quickly learn and understand various processes regarding Kiewit’s policies, procedures, and software programs.
- Ability to identify and resolve any problems that may arise.
- Excellent organizational, administrative, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong experience in leadership, safety, negotiations, planning, and contract administration.
- Regular, reliable attendance
- Work productively and meet deadlines timely
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
- Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
- Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
