The Chief Estimator is located in Scarborough, Ontario and typically works directly with the General Manager.

The Chief Mechanical Estimator role includes working on a full range of mechanical projects in the industrial, commercial, government, and institutional markets.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Lead a team of Estimators specializing in Mechanical ICI Construction preparing estimates of probable costs of materials, labour, subcontractors, and equipment for construction projects based on contract bids, quotations, schematic drawings, and specifications.
  2. Advise on tendering procedures, examine and analyze tenders, recommend tender awards, and conduct negotiations.
  3. Establish and maintain the tendering process and set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  4. Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers, and architects regarding tenders.
  5. Oversee site review, tender review, tender hand-off, project closing, and operational/sector meetings with the Division Manager, General Manager, Project Manager, and Purchasing as required.
  6. Oversee the maintenance of the directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  7. Liaise, consult, and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors, and prepare economic feasibility studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  8. Maintain an industry presence to ensure continuity of work now and in the future.
  9. Keep abreast of new technology within the mechanical contracting industry to ensure that all estimates include the most up-to-date construction methods & procedures.
  10. Conduct material and equipment purchasing for secured jobs.
  11. Travel to various sites or clients to undertake the above.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Graduate of Mechanical Engineering program or Construction Technology program with related work experience OR Qualified tradesperson in mechanical field with several years' experience, and previous estimating experience.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

15-20 years of experience working as a Mechanical Estimator on ICI projects of a $10M value or higher.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  11. Advanced user of MS applications (Word, Excel, and Projects)
