OVERVIEW

Canada Guaranty is currently seeking a Senior Financial Analyst, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to join our growing Finance team in Toronto. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Director of FP&A in preparing the company’s annual budget, quarterly financial forecasts, and macroeconomic stress scenarios. This role will also perform financial analyses, sensitivity analyses, assist the Director in expense reporting, and tax preparation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Planning

  • Consolidate information from all departments, including operating expenses, human resource needs, salaries, premiums, expenses, fees, and taxes, and prepare a “bottom-up” corporate budget under applicable IFRS standards (including IFRS 17 and IFRS 9) for the upcoming year.
  • Prepare sensitivity analysis on various scenarios applied to base budget; prepare report for executive review including the impact of various scenarios.
  • Prepare long term forecasts from the annual budget, including profit and loss statement, balance sheet, cash flow, and regulatory capital ratios.
  • Quarterly, prepare financial forecasts reflecting revised baseline forecast and macroeconomic stress scenarios developed by the stress testing working group.
  • Assist CFO and Director of FP&A with preparation of reports for the Board.
  • Assist the Director of FP&A in developing operational efficiency through automation.

Financial Analysis

  • Prepare variance analysis of financial statements compared to budget and prior year, and a monthly departmental expense analysis.

Taxes

  • Prepare income tax provisions for Operating company and Holding company.
  • Coordinate income tax returns and commodity tax returns with external consultants.
  • Collaborate with external consultants on any tax related issues.

Other

  • Work with external consultants and auditors to provide information and clarification during internal and external audits.
  • Perform other duties and assist with special projects, as required.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS & KEY COMPETENCIES

Education

  • Current accreditation of CPA designation.
  • University degree in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics, Mathematics, Computer, Finance or Economics. A related master’s degree is considered an asset.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of IFRS 17 and budgeting and planning methodologies and frameworks.

Experience

  • Minimum five years of progressive financial planning and analysis experience, preferably in the financial services, insurance, and mortgage industry.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft applications including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency in programming using SAS and SQL. Extensive and practical experience in other programming languages, such as Excel VBA and Python, are also considered assets.
  • Working knowledge of accounting software and corporate income tax.
