Job Description

FX is looking for an experienced Director of Photography. The Director of Photography plays a crucial role in the production process. They are responsible for overviewing the entire production with the directors, managing multiple teams on set, such as the lighting/gaffers and camera operators, ensuring every frame is maximized to its fullest potential during the production process.

Responsibilities

  1. Organize, Communicate and Assemble: Organize the overall production crew on set and communicate with the right personnel to ensure each project goes smoothly.
  2. Collaborate with Creative Team: Work closely with directors, producers, and other team members to understand project requirements and deliver content that meets creative and technical standards.
  3. Implement Feedback: Receive revisions from the directors of FX Productions Canada and implement them promptly.
  4. Manage Media Assets: Organize and manage all media assets, ensuring all files are properly stored and backed up for easy access and retrieval with the assistance of a data management specialist while on set.
  5. Handle Multiple Projects: Manage multiple aspects of production simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and avoiding crew overtime without compromising quality.
  6. Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot technical issues that arise during the editing process and find creative solutions to maintain the project timeline.

Requirements and Skills

  1. Proven Experience: Must have at least 5+ years of demonstrated experience as a Director of Photography with a strong portfolio showcasing previous work.
  2. Technical Proficiency: Proficient in various camera systems, such as Sony, Canon, RED Camera, and ARRI.
  3. Creativity and Storytelling: Strong creative skills with an eye for symmetry and good picture detail, ensuring balance and composure in each frame.
  4. Understanding of Post-Production: In-depth knowledge of the post-production process, including sound editing and design, color correction and grading, and special effects.
  5. Collaboration Skills: Excellent communication skills to work effectively with the creative team and directors of FX Productions Canada.
  6. Time Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight time frames on set.
  7. Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues that arise during the editing process.
  8. Attention to Detail: High level of attention to detail to ensure quality and consistency in all video outputs.
  9. Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to changing project requirements and feedback.
  10. Educational Background: A degree or diploma in film studies, cinematography, or a related field is preferred but not required.
  11. Passion for the Industry: A passion for video production and a continuous desire to learn and implement new techniques.
