Your Opportunity:

High River General Hospital supports a busy rural community located just south of Calgary with a 24-hour Emergency Department, Surgical Services, Obstetrical Department, Cancer Care, and Medical Inpatients Unit. The Registered Nurse (RN) at the Acute Medical Inpatient Unit works as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of the patients, families, & community. The RN is responsible for assessment planning, implementation, and delivery of patient care that ensures the safety and wellbeing of patients. The RN will work to full scope, provide a leadership role in supporting an integrated approach to patient care, families & health care team. The RN will be trained in the Charge Nurse role with the expectation they will have the Charge Nurse assignment within the rotation. The RN must be able to adapt quickly to changing & fluctuating workloads and demonstrate initiative, accountability, critical thinking and strong clinical skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills are required as is a commitment to integrating Patient and Family Centered Care principles, professional development/growth & promoting a positive work culture aligning with AHS values. Being a preceptor and/or mentor for students and staff is an expectation. The RN requires the ability to tolerate constant walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching, and sustaining posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, pulling of objects greater than 50lbs.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification.

Additional Required Qualifications:
Active registration with CRNA. Previous Acute Care experience. Rural Acute Care and/or Rural ER experience within the last six months.

Preferred Qualifications:
Wound care education/certification. Palliative care education/certification. Supportive Pathways certification. Dementia care education. ACLS certification. Current NVCI training. Able to work independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated strength in working collaboratively with diverse cultural populations and marginalized populations with socio-economic diversities.
