Compliance Auditor (Mining) - British Columbia


Introduction

Our client is a premier North American gold development company led by a world-class team with a proven track record of discovering, developing and operating tier-1 projects globally. This group has brought fruition to multiple projects in the gold sector, including building Canada's largest-producing gold mines.


We are seeking a Compliance Auditor who will play a crucial role in ensuring strict adherence to all relevant laws, regulations, and permits governing mining construction and operations.

Your responsibilities will include conducting audits, inspections, and reviews to identify and rectify compliance gaps and risks, acting as a vigilant guardian of regulatory compliance within the mining sector.


Long-term Contract: until completion of the mine


FIFO: no set rotation (incumbent must live in Western Canada)

The preferred work rotation is anticipated to be approx. 50% to 75% on site and 25% remote. Flexibility will be required as construction needs change.


Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular audits to assess compliance with local, state/provincial and federal laws, regulations, and permits governing mining operations.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with all permits and approvals required for mine development, operation, and closure.
  • Evaluate environmental management practices to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and standards.
  • Prepare detailed audit reports, findings and recommendations for management, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders. Maintain accurate and up-to-date compliance documentation.
  • Identify potential compliance risks and develop mitigation strategies to prevent violations and penalties.
  • Work closely with internal teams, regulatory agencies, and external stakeholders to address compliance issues and promote a culture of compliance within the organization.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on compliance requirements, best practices, and regulatory updates.
  • Stay informed about changes in laws, regulations, and industry standards affecting mining compliance. Recommend and implement improvements to compliance processes and procedures.


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Law, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in compliance auditing, preferably in the mining or natural resources industry.
  • Understanding of BC mining regulations.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, permitting processes and health and safety standards applicable to mining operations.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and apply complex regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and experience with compliance management software is a plus.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Environmental Auditor (CEA) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) are desirable.
