Job DescriptionReporting to the Director Solution Integration Architect, the Manager Solution Architect is an interdisciplinary team player who is comfortable and confident working through the unknown and is passionate to drive novel solutions rooted in complexity. This individual is responsible for overseeing the translation of business requirements into solution architecture to ensure it complies with Canada Post’s enterprise architecture standards, principles, and roadmaps. The Manager Solution Architect will collaborate with the Enterprise Technical Architects, the Project Manager/Fusion team, and the Architecture CoE to facilitate integration across solutions and technologies within a specific domain.
Functional / Technical Requirements
- Manage the development and maintenance of solution architecture that accurately translates business requirements to technology and ensures the design will meet business requirements throughout the lifecycle of a change
- Work closely with development teams to ensure design patterns and directions are successfully and consistently implemented, and consistent with the organization’s architectural standards
- Assess and articulate any impacts of the solution on the existing business and technical landscape
- Work across the organization to understand and leverage common solution components where appropriate
- Support the coordination of solution architectures, communication protocols, and other key architectural elements in standing with the enterprise technology architecture strategy
- Design and implement complex systems solutions across the stack
- Proactively anticipate technical risks and design/implement error handling and other mitigation techniques to ensure solution stability and security
- Recognize opportunities for reuse, componentization, dependencies and interactions between components and projects and take ownership of resolving issues/conflicts
- Support management, business, multidisciplinary product and fusion teams, and the delivery partner teams with innovations and solid design principles
- Translate business requirements into an overall technical solution that is robust, scalable and extensible
- Develop and maintain architecture documentation in support of the reference architecture, solution landscape evolution and espoused patterns and principles
- Participate in the definition of a change release strategy for application change initiatives
- Provide technical thought leadership and mentoring and seek opportunities for continuous improvement and leverage innovation
- Provide reports to / escalate process-related issues to the relevant Process Owner, as necessary
Leadership
- Be an evangelist and agent of cultural change by championing the use of digital technology and practices in order to establish a digital mindset from the top down
- Drive collaboration, knowledge sharing and best practices among partners and colleagues to help establish a robust digital ecosystem, positively impacting business outcomes
- Take responsibility to advance the digital dexterity of business partners and present new business options and opportunities based on successful digital examples
- Maintain external accreditations and an in-depth understanding of current and emerging data technologies, external regulation, and industry best practices through continuing professional development, attending conferences, etc.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of data standards, processes, and tools to increase efficiency and effectiveness
- Enable continuous improvement of innovation, digital strategy and systems change-related processes through regular stakeholder engagement, process reviews and tracking of key metrics/performance indicators
Education / Certifications
- Completed post-secondary education, preferably in Computer Science, Information Systems, Technology, Business, Engineering, or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
- A Masters or Professional level degree (e.g., MBA) an asset
- Professional designation or certification may be required (e.g., TOGAF, ITIL Foundations, IT Architecture), SOA, Integration technologies (FUSE/ DataStage / MQ))
Experience
- Minimum of (5) years of experience as a Solution, Infrastructure, Business or Data Architect
- Minimum of (5) years of experience in progressively advancing roles within IT
- Minimum of (5) years of relevant functional experience including leading the delivery of customer-focused strategies from conception to completion
- Minimum of (3) years of experience managing people
- Experience working in a unionized environment an asset
- Strategically minded with understanding of business and technology to drive business value and financial objectives
- Ability to create innovative strategies to improve our ability to execute faster and to secure buy-in from a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders
- Experience in managing relationships with technology, operations, and business members
