Job Purpose

  • Position Overview:

The General Labourer is responsible for day-to-day duties on site needed to complete work in a safe and timely fashion and maintain a clean work site. This position will also include responsibilities of working at the front counter as a parts person.

This position must also adhere to our safety program and work as a contributing member of the site team. Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this position, candidates must be 18 years of age or older as we require pre-employment testing. Pre-Employment testing includes Alcohol and Drug testing.

  • Responsibilities:
    • Ensure all SECURE safety policies and procedures are followed
    • Be cognizant of and adhere to any site-specific safety requirements
    • Partake in all safety-related meetings including: daily tail gates, last-minute risk assessment, etc.
    • Greet customers at the front desk
    • Answers questions and addresses complaints
    • Handle all cash transactions, cash counts, and cash in/out
    • Receive and issue incoming and outgoing payments by cash, cheque, credit, debit, and e-transfer
    • Handle phone systems and messages
    • Handle incoming and outgoing emails
    • Keep track of shipments
    • Orders stock as required
    • Ensure tidiness of worksite and office
    • Spotting for trucks
    • Must be familiar with operating and servicing small equipment such as forklifts
    • Responsible for general manual labor
    • Dismantling used vehicles for salvageable parts
    • Must have an understanding of all power and small hand tools
    • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment
    • Clean, lubricate and fuel all equipment and general site housekeeping
    • Notify supervisor and or repair shop of any required work to be done
    • Other related duties as required
  • Qualifications:
  • General labour and or farm experience an asset but not required
  • Previous experience in the metal industry would be considered a strong asset
  • Previous customer service experience would be considered a strong asset
  • Basic comprehension and ability to follow SECURE’s Workplace Health and Safety requirements relevant to the assigned work site, including but not limited to SECURE’s safety and hazard assessment process
  • Must have an understanding of all power and small hand tools
  • Ability to complete safety documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, shoveling, moving containers and other heavy materials
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to persevere through difficult weather conditions, challenging work site environments, and long demanding work days
  • Ability to manage weather and/or seasonal interruptions in work schedule
  • Certification in First Aid would be considered an asset
