SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

The Finance Director is a key leader responsible for overseeing the financial health of the organization. This role includes managing accounting, financial reporting, forecasting, and cash flow optimization. The Finance Director supports the CFO with treasury functions and leads the implementation of ERP systems across projects and business units. Additionally, this role involves managing banking relationships, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and providing strategic financial insights. The Finance Director also plays a crucial role in developing the finance team and enhancing coordination between finance, programs, and field offices

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Corporate Finance

  • Manage banking relationships, including operating credit limits, term loans, adherence to banking covenants, and special project financing.
  • Assist the CFO with other Treasury functions including, but not limited to, tax planning, corporate reorganizations, share redemptions, etc.
  • Support the CFO in reviewing and consolidating the company’s annual plan/budget, and in monitoring variances.
  • Lead the consolidation of group financial statements and support audits for multiple business units and projects.
  • Monitor short and long-term cash flows, making strategic decisions to optimize the flow of funds while balancing cash flow needs.
  • Provide financial statements to relevant stakeholders by established deadlines.
  • Support the implementation of different systems and ERP across various projects and business units, ensuring seamless integration and alignment with business processes.

Projects Accounting Oversight and Internal Controls

  • Ensure appropriate accounting and control systems in place, in accordance with accounting principles, contractual and legal obligations and internal policies.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to different donors.
  • Oversee all accounting functions, including revenue recognition, project costing, invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, timesheet allocation and posting, and foreign exchange management.
  • Provide ongoing financial analysis, projections and assessment and make recommendations to ensure efficiency and cost containment.
  • Oversee the development of budgets.
  • Develop and implement suitable internal controls and separation of duties.
  • Review project setup at inception and ensure compliant structure for reporting.

People leadership

  • Recruit, train, supervise, coach , support the development of , and evaluate the different members of finance team.
  • Provide collaborative leadership and guidance to improve the coordination between finance and programs, and field offices.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Professional Accounting designation (CPA) or a master’s in finance, Business Administration, or equivalent
  • Proficiency in both English and French (spoken and written).
  • 6 to 8 years of directly related experience including 2 years experience at a management level
  • Strong analytical, financial management and budgeting skills
  • Proven ability to recommend, influence, develop and implement policies and programs that guide the organization towards efficiency
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent collaboration skills to work within a team across multiple geographic locations
  • People leadership skills including coaching, development and performance management
  • Initiative, drive for results, and ability to manage competing deadlines effectively
