Job Description

Mayfair Terrace, a premier retirement living community in Port Coquitlam, BC, is seeking an experienced and passionate Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will be dedicated to providing high-quality, nutritious, and delicious meals for our residents while ensuring a safe and welcoming dining environment.

Job Responsibilities


**Key Responsibilities:**
- **Menu Planning and Preparation:** Develop and prepare nutritious and appetizing meals tailored to the dietary needs and preferences of residents.
- **Culinary Excellence:** Ensure the highest standards of food quality, presentation, and taste are consistently met.
- **Dietary Compliance:** Work closely with the Operations Manager and dietitian to ensure all meals meet Client and Resident expectations.
- **Kitchen Management:** Oversee kitchen operations, including inventory management, ordering supplies, and maintaining cleanliness and safety standards.
- **Team Leadership:** Lead, train, and mentor kitchen staff, promoting teamwork and efficient kitchen practices.
- **Health and Safety:** Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations, including proper handling, storage, and preparation of food.
- **Resident Engagement:** Interact with residents to receive feedback and make adjustments to menus and services based on their preferences.
- **Event Catering:** Plan and execute special event menus and holiday meals as needed.

Qualifications

- **Experience:** Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Chef, preferably in a retirement living, healthcare, or hospitality setting.
- **Education:** Culinary degree or equivalent certification from a recognized culinary institution.
- **Knowledge:** Strong understanding of nutrition, dietary restrictions, and senior dietary needs.
- **Skills:** Excellent cooking and baking skills, strong organizational and leadership abilities, and effective communication skills.


**Working Conditions:**
- This role requires standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in a fast-paced environment.
- The Chef will work primarily in the kitchen but also required to attend to the dining area and interact with residents.
- Flexibility in working hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.
