The Opportunity:
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Senior Manager to join the Community Identity Division to lead the Community Planning and Community Identity Sub-Divisions. Community Planning includes the departments of Planning and Urban Design and Community and Social Development, while Community Identity includes Environment, Economic Development, and Culture, Heritage and Events.

Together, these departments create a well-balanced community that is inclusive, affordable, and attractive. The Senior Manager brings a strategic mindset to enhance the unique identity of Okotoks within the Calgary Metropolitan Region by:

  • Developing relationships with local, regional, national, and international individuals, corporations, and institutions to support the growth and advancement of Okotoks.
  • Harnessing the capabilities of professional staff to serve the community and region, thereby advancing the interests of residents, businesses, and institutions.
  • Executing initiatives and projects that bring vitality, livability, and a strong sense of identity to Okotoks, enabling residents to fully enjoy their community.
  • Leveraging relationships to foster collaboration and drive the town's strategic goals.

Through these efforts, the Senior Manager ensures that Okotoks remains a thriving, vibrant community that values inclusivity, sustainability, and innovation

The Community Planning & Identity Senior Manager is responsible for core duties such as, but not exclusive of:

Contributing to the development and execution of strategic initiatives that significantly advance the objectives of the Town;

  • Facilitating the delivery of objectives and lead the coordinated planning and execution of a wide variety of initiatives, and associated metrics;
  • Providing leadership and project management to Community Planning & Identity initiatives including service governance development, service plan performance reporting, budgeting, risk management, business continuity planning, communications tactics and the execution;
  • Analysing and assessing information on emerging issues, trends, opportunities, and implications of possible initiatives; create and evaluate options for consideration by the senior leadership team;
  • Acting as the front-face representative for The Town of Okotoks and our community in amplifying and telling Okotoks regenerative development story through public speaking, events and education forums;
  • Developing business opportunities for a multitude of different areas and complexities, which include profit and not-for profit business locally, nationally, and internationally;

What you Bring
A combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities to qualify. A typical way to qualify is equivalency to completion of a relevant University (Bachelor) program in a Business/Scientific Field of Study and/or work plus:

  • A sound understanding of the underlying theoretical principles and concepts associated with the subject area and an understanding of the relation of these to the responsibilities of the job, often recognized by a degree in Business, Economics, Planning or other relevant discipline.
  • Related professional designation and/or Master’s in Business or Public Administration would be considered an asset.
  • 8 or more years work experience representing continuous learning and career progression, which would include a minimum of 4 years oversite over multiple disciplines or functions and team management experience.
  • An innovative mind-set and a proven ability to execute initiatives that enable the Town to build off its unique attributes while balancing the demands of growth within a metropolitan region.
  • Strong team management abilities and the desire to foster the development of others.
  • Strong proven background in strategic planning, project management, relationship building and problem solving.
  • Strong presentation confidence and highly developed communication skills, inclusive of political acumen, diplomacy and confidentiality.
  • Experience in budgeting & financial management.
  • Experience in the public sector would be preferred.
