Summary: Sanitation Leadhand supports the department Supervisor in their responsibility for ensuring a high standard of sanitation and good manufacturing practices within the sanitation program at the factory. This position reports directly to the Sanitation Supervisor and is a key driver of the overall sanitation program on the shop floor.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the sanitation department to ensure that all food safety guidelines and procedures are met while adhering to all human and chemical safety procedures.
  • Be responsible for the training and effectiveness of the HACCP Sanitation Manual and support the Supervisor in ensuring it is kept current.
  • Work closely with production, quality, and maintenance in directing activities during sanitation days and daily sanitation activities, as well as working closely with the Supervisor to implement new sanitation standards and reporting requirements.
  • Be an active leader in the plant’s fryer safety program, which involves supporting the Supervisor in mentoring and training all fryer operators and supervisors to help eliminate fryer fire risk and improve overall operation of the equipment.
  • Exhibit relentless safe working practices, including chemical handling, PPE, LOTO, and other safe work requirements. Lead the Sanitation and all other plant teams by example.
  • Adhere to the Supervisor's annual chemical and sanitation budget while also ensuring a clean plant.
  • Support the supervisor in ensuring pest control devices and systems are being monitored and any inspection actions are being closed.
  • Ensure compliance with the McCain Foods’ sanitation guidelines, customer requirements, and government requirements.
  • Have a clear understanding of the manufacturing process and equipment function, including their ACS in order to ensure proper equipment sanitation.
  • Participate in food safety audits in conjunction with the Quality department.
  • Support the Supervisor with annual performance management of the Day Sanitation team and perform other projects and/or duties as assigned or needed.
  • Incorporate sanitation goals into the plant continuous improvement programs (MDI, SI, MSS, EMP, etc.).
  • Support the Supervisor to ensure all Sanitation team member safety trainings stay up to date (WHMIS, Chemical Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, Lockout Procedures, TDG, Forklift, Scissor/Boom Lift, Personal Fall Protection, First Aid, Confined Space).
  • Support the supervisor to manage parts and chemical stock and work with the suppliers via Coupa.
  • Support GEMBA walks and Safety Interactions as scheduled.
  • Ensure shop floor sanitation procedures and programs are being accurately followed in all aspects and are completed on-time.
  • All other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work in a team environment in a leading and participating role.
  • Ability to lead people professionally adhering to our leadership principles.
  • Ability to problem solve and escalate/ask for help in a timely manner.
  • Clear understanding of the sanitation processes and HACCP/GMP.
  • Self-motivated individual capable of leading new initiatives with little direct supervision.
  • Lead, coach & provide direction to the employees in the sanitation department, as well as other employees performing cleaning tasks.
  • Minimum 1-year experience in a food processing sanitation environment.
  • Ability to promote teamwork and good GMP practices throughout the factory.
  • A good working knowledge of all the equipment in the facility.
  • Basic knowledge of microbiology.
  • Full understanding of the factory chemicals.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Basic computer skills necessary.
  • Applicant must be willing to consistently hold themselves and their co-workers accountable to a high standard of performance while navigating any potential roadblocks.
