Senior Accountant, Audit (Markham-Based)


Position Overview:

Our client, a reputable Markham-based, mid-sized public accounting firm, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Accountant – Audit to join their growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an accounting professional with a strong audit background, looking to expand their skill set and grow their career in a collaborative, supportive environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit Engagements: Lead and manage audit engagements for a diverse portfolio of clients, including private companies, not-for-profits, and public sector organizations.
  • Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare and review financial statements in compliance with Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Enterprises (ASPE), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and other relevant frameworks.
  • Client Interaction: Develop and maintain relationships with clients, ensuring high-quality service and addressing client concerns or inquiries in a professional manner.
  • Supervision & Mentorship: Supervise and mentor junior staff members, providing guidance on audit procedures, technical issues, and client communication.
  • Audit Planning & Execution: Plan, execute, and review audit procedures, including risk assessments, internal control evaluations, and substantive testing.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Reporting: Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards, including the Canadian Auditing Standards (CAS).
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including tax and advisory, to provide holistic solutions to clients and ensure efficient project delivery.
  • Special Projects: Support clients with special projects, including due diligence, internal control reviews, and other advisory services.


Qualifications:

  • Education: A CPA designation (or working towards completion) is required. Additional certifications or training in audit and accounting will be considered an asset.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in public accounting, focusing on audit and assurance services for a range of clients.
  • Skills:
  • Strong technical knowledge of Canadian auditing standards (CAS) and accounting principles (ASPE, IFRS).
  • Ability to manage and execute audits from planning through to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with clients and provide clear, actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in accounting and auditing software (e.g., CaseWare, ProSystem FX) and Microsoft Office Suite.
