Construction Manager

A leading mining company is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to oversee the successful delivery of a major open-pit project located in Manitoba. Currently in the engineering phase, this high-grade project is poised to transition into early works in 2025. The position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a significant growth initiative for a well-established organization, delivering a safe, high-quality, and efficient mining operation.
This is a site-based role with a rotational schedule of 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off.
Key Responsibilities:
- Champion safety leadership, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and emergency response protocols throughout all phases of the project.
- Develop comprehensive construction contract strategies, including AWP/CWP methodologies.
- Lead preparation and review of construction contract scopes of work and construction proposals.
- Oversee site construction activities, including early works, and ensure adherence to safety, cost, quality, and schedule objectives.
- Review engineering documentation, studies, and reports to ensure constructability and alignment with project objectives.
- Manage contractor performance, vendor relationships, and change management for construction contracts.
- Coordinate meetings, site resources, and activities involving consultants, contractors, and employees.
- Ensure timely project completion and an efficient handover to operations.
Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
- Minimum 20 years’ experience on large mining/industrial projects, particularly during design, construction, and commissioning phases.
- At least 10 years in a supervisory capacity, with a proven ability to lead on-site construction management teams.
- Deep understanding of construction safety, quality, cost control, and progress reporting.
- Expertise in project completion and handover processes for mining or industrial operations.
- Experience as a designated construction site “Prime Contractor” in compliance with provincial workplace safety legislation.
- Strong contract negotiation skills and familiarity with construction AWP/CWP methodologies.
- Exceptional communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage construction contractors with budgets exceeding $100M.
