The Lead-Hand assists the Foreman with most aspects related to craft personnel and construction equipment management and the making of decisions pertaining to production daily. The Lead-Hand helps direct the day-to-day activities of equipment operators, laborers, subcontractors, services, and has the capability to manually complete any activity when necessary.
Your day-to-day will look like:
- Assisting with Pre-planning work for the crew
- Assisting with Provide training and mentorship to ensure and develop safety and increase their ability to perform all tasks related to the job function.
- Assisting with Protect employees, contractors, clients, the public and environment from potential incidents.
- Assisting with Ensure the company safety program and all Government Acts and Regulations are followed and complied with by all personnel on site. Safety responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Promote and maintain a culture that values safety, health, and cleanliness.
- Conduct end of shift and weekly site inspections when required.
- Assist with inspections. (Equipment, tools, vehicles, etc.) and provide records of inspections as required.
- Assist with Providing assessment and elimination or controls of site hazards.
- Assist with Ensuring tools and equipment are in safe operating condition, inspected, and maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications. Ensure workers are trained in the safe operation of tools and equipment.
- Assist with Ensuring all PPE is worn on site (all sites to be respected as energized).
- Provide first aid if required.
- Assist Maintaining housekeeping of the work site, equipment, tools.
- Assist with maintaining quality of workmanship, production, and morale.
- Makes decisions independently as required to address and resolve problems and to plan and coordinate work.
- Provide adequate directions and instructions given to the workers.
- Works closely with the Site Foreman or Superintendent.
- Assist with Instructing employees on the work methods and performance expectations.
- Suspend all activities that may be considered unsafe, post a risk to personnel, the public, the environment, or be in violation of approved policies, procedures, or contract requirements.
- Other duties may be required as per Management (i.e., operating machinery, laboring, etc.)
You have the following qualifications, technical and interpersonal skills:
Qualifications:
- Foundation Piling / Drilling / CFA Experience is required.
- Years of experience: minimum 3-5 yrs.
- Able to lift 50lbs
- Education: grade 12 with diploma
- Designations: Valid Drivers License, SiteReadyBC, Ground Disturbance Lv.2, First Aid, Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform
- Able to travel to BC and Saskatchewan, as required.
Technical Skills:
- Must have construction experience related to Foundation Piling construction.
- Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able to understand and interpret engineering, architectural and other construction drawings.
- Knowledgeable with ground stability.
- Knowledge of rigging and hoisting.
- Knowledgeable in load securement and trailers.
- Knowledgeable with ground disturbance, trenching/excavation, and underground/overhead utilities.
- Operating machinery and having a strong understanding of capabilities
- Strong organizational skills.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Understands the meaning and methods of construction associated with Foundation Piling construction.
- Understands the sequencing of work and the strategy of creating effective project schedules.
- Is goal oriented and can react quickly to challenging circumstances to achieve the desired end results.
- Is proactive, plans well and addresses problems promptly.
- Is committed to doing quality work the first time with little or no need for re-work.
- Works to meet or beat schedules and is driven to bring closure to avoid long punch lists.
