Job Overview


The Specialist, Volunteer Engagement plays a pivotal role on the Volunteer Engagement team, with primary responsibility for national volunteer recruitment, policy review/development, volunteer recognition anddigital supports. The Specialist also performs administrative duties related to volunteer management and engagement.


What You’ll Be Doing


Assessment and Strategy Creation:


  • Work closely with the Director, People, Culture and Volunteer Engagement to review and assess Parkinson Canada’s current volunteer engagement program.
  • Assist with the creation and implementation of a Volunteer Engagement Strategy that aligns with the strategic direction of Parkinson Canada.


Recruitment:


  • Responsible for national recruitment of Parkinson Canada volunteers
  • Develops targeted and innovative strategies for recruitment that meet volunteer needs across the organization
  • Work closely with volunteer managers to support coordinated recruitment efforts
  • Share volunteer postings on LinkedIn, Indeed, Charity Village and other recruitment sites and pursue other opportunities for recruitment
  • Schedule and conduct phone screens with potential volunteers
  • Complete screening and onboarding process including interviews, reference checks, and police checks as applicable
  • Ensure mandatory trainings such as the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and Violence and Harassment in the Workplace are completed for all volunteers
  • Ensure volunteers have appropriate access to role-specific and other training
  • Collaborate with the human resources team to share effective recruitment strategies
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the organization to apply an equity, diversity, inclusion and justice framework to volunteer engagement
  • Maintain relationships with community organizations to ensure the selection of the most qualified candidates, with a focus on equity, diversity, inclusion and justice
  • Keep up-to-date on equity, diversity and inclusion strategies for recruitment and retention


Recognition:


  • Review and assess Parkinson Canada’s current volunteer recognition practices.
  • Create and oversee an organizational recognition program for volunteers that is inclusive of both internal and external recognition opportunities.


Administration:


  • Assist with cleanup and maintenance of digital volunteer files
  • Maintain and update digital reports
  • Monitor and maintain the volunteer@ email address
  • Track and file volunteer data including confidential and private information
  • Provide general assistance to volunteer and staff inquiries



Digital Transformation:


  • Administrate the volunteer engagement platform
  • Respond to new volunteer profiles/applications in a timely manner
  • Create and deliver volunteer engagement platform training and resource materials for staff and volunteers
  • Assist with the collection and presentation of digital data for reporting purposes


Policies:


  • Work with the Director, People, Culture and Volunteer Engagement to review and update volunteer policies, such as the Volunteer Handbook
  • Communicate changes to policies to staff and volunteers


Qualifications


  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a non-profit or charitable organization in a volunteer coordination, management or HR engagement capacity
  • Demonstrated experience in volunteer recruitment, retention and recognition
  • Demonstrated record of supporting volunteers to increase or enhance engagement
  • Experience collaborating with volunteer managers, including providing ongoing support and training
  • Experience with a digital volunteer engagement platform or constituent relationship management system
  • Able to apply equity, diversity and inclusion frameworks to volunteer engagement
  • Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills
  • Commitment to learning about Parkinson’s disease and engaging with the Parkinson’s community
  • Proven ability to set priorities and have sound judgement and problem-solving skills
  • High level of professionalism and discretion
  • Experience with Microsoft Office is an asset
  • College diploma or Certificate in Volunteer Management is an asset
