Position Overview:
Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Research and Development will lead and manage the company’s R&D efforts, focusing on developing innovative chemical products, processes, and technologies. The role involves strategic planning to ensure that new developments align with market demands and regulatory standards. The Director will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive growth, maintain quality, and sustain a competitive advantage in the cleaning chemical industry.
What does the Director of Research and Development do?
- Direct and implement R&D policies, objectives, and initiatives.
- Take responsibility for chemical formulations, efficacy testing, use directives, product specifications, and manufacturing processes.
- Analyze trends and technology related to the cleaning chemical industry, ensuring that Charlotte Products remains on the cutting edge of product and process innovation.
- Ensure all Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to in office and laboratory environments.
- Coach, develop, and lead the R&D Technician(s).
- Draft technical communications describing products and programs.
- Work closely with regulatory bodies and the Regulatory and QA/QC Manager.
What you need:
- Graduate or doctoral degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Biochemistry or a related field would be preferred, but equivalent experience will also be considered.
- Proven experience in a strategic leadership role within R&D in the chemical industry.
- Experience working in the cleaning/janitorial/sanitation industry would be ideal.
- Strong project management skills with a track record of successfully bringing products from concept to market.
- Understanding of regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work in person at our head office in Peterborough, Ontario.
- A valid passport and the ability to travel for work. Travel is infrequent, but sometimes necessary.
