Plant Manager

Overview
This position will provide direction and leadership to the Egg Grading facility with responsibility for the operational efficiency and cost effectiveness of the operation. The operation consists of distinct production lines requiring a solid engineering and mechanical background. In addition to the manufacturing processes, Quality Assurance/Control, shipping and receiving, maintenance and sanitation activities are part of the operation.
This role is responsible for plant activities, managing employees, ensuring compliance to regulations, safety protocols and Company policies and security.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the safety of the employees, colleagues and contractors working at the site. Develop plans to consistently improve the general safety performance of the site.
- Provides effective guidance, coaching, technical expertise, and training as needed.
- Drive results for plant Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including safety, quality, cost, production efficiency, delivery, absenteeism, training, compliance, on-time delivery, communications, etc.
- Assists in troubleshooting major operational problems.
- Prepares reports, documentation and gathers information for operational reviews.
- Assists in approving designs for operations considering quality, safety, and productivity.
- Provides support for operations commissioning and training for new equipment and process flow.
- Supports R&D activities for equipment trials.
- Ensures adherence to uncompromising product quality and sanitation standards.
- Ensures that all production policies and practices are in place and observed.
- Regularly inspects and tracks waste and water usage, energy consumption, shrinkage, benchmarking, over-pull and under-pull grades, scale settings, maintenance of proper inventory levels.
- Ensures compliance with QA requirements, legislation, and regulatory bodies.
- Ensures that the HACCP program is functional and that all criteria are implemented and maintained.
- Maintains all established environmental protection regulations and tracks performance.
- Ensures the plant operates within budgeted targets.
- Establishes and maintains open and regular communication with employees, other organizational units within the Company and external organizations.
- Ensures Company assets are secured and properly maintained.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge and understanding of quality assurance principles, food science and processing.
- In-depth understanding of microbiological testing and limited chemistry testing (nice-to-have).
- Knowledge of various pathogens and microbes associated with food production (nice-to-have).
- Hands-on experience conducting microbiological testing on egg or poultry products (nice-to-have).
- Comprehensive knowledge of CFIA, HACCP, Pre-requisites and SSOP requirements.
- HACCP Certified, preferred.
- Ability to uphold regulatory, company and customer standards.
- Strong Leadership and team building abilities: influence, mobilizes, gain personal commitment, and achieve results.
- Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Excellent computer skills; knowledge of Database software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet and Word Processing software; QMS system and SAP.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills with demonstrated multi-tasking and project management skills.
- Must be able to travel up to 15% of the time.
- May be required to work excess hours and occasional weekends.
- Experience and proven success in Lean and/or Continuous Improvement methodologies.
- Lean and Continuous Improvement certifications.
- Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt Certification (preferred).
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Completed post-secondary education.
- 10 or more years’ experience in a manufacturing management role.
- Must have a very strong technical background, preferably from the food industry.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of government and industry requirements, standards, regulations, and processes as they apply to our environment.
- Demonstrates passion and enthusiasm for an organization's culture/vision, and motivates, leads, and empowers others to achieve organizational/departmental goals.
- Ability to analyze complex issues, draw correct conclusions, and articulate clear and focused directives while demonstrating rational judgment based on relevant information.
- Good understanding of Windows office software tools.
- Proficiency in engineering methods, standards, codes, regulations, procedures and practices.
