WSP’s growing Canadian Transportation Systems Team has an opportunity for you to join our team and become a strategic partner for our business activities. We are currently seeking a Lead External Relations Specialist, who will report to the Senior Vice-President of External Relation and you will have a strategic role in effectively communicating the various engagement plans and targets to engage and align all team members towards achieving the projects objectives.

You are an important team member and will have a critical role in developing external communications strategy to engage the media and stakeholders. The person selected for this position will ensure consistent messaging and will manage relationships with key company stakeholders and with partners.

A day in the life:

  • Be an important voice in the definition, establishment of the communication, public affairs, and engagement strategy in alignment with the different project priorities and objectives.
  • Align strategies with the business objectives and the other teams.
  • Must ensure the implementation of the integrated communications and stakeholder engagement strategy.
  • Contribute to the stakeholder mapping.
  • Participate in the preparation of the communications protocol to stakeholders, including responses to various enquiries.
  • Oversee and write press material, fact sheets, talking points, press releases, speeches and reports.
  • Ensure dissemination of messaging to all internal and external employees and partners so that the narrative is consistent.
  • Establish and maintain an effective crisis management plan.
  • Recommend and create performance indicators to evaluate and monitor the progress of the communications and engagement strategies.
  • Act as the point person between the team and the public relations firm.
  • Contribute to the implementation of the stakeholder engagement plan, focusing on project delivery excellence, project performance, and strategic plan adherence.
  • Work with and identify other stakeholders and leaders that will impact the project.
  • Define stakeholder engagement strategies, and risk mitigation measures during pursuit processes and customer negotiations.

We’d like to know more about you if you have:

  • 7 to 10 years of experience in communications, media relations and public affairs.
  • Appreciation of the infrastructure-related political environment.
  • Experience in government and stakeholder relations.
  • Experience in crisis and issue management.
  • Experience in media relations, social media and public affairs.
  • Excellent mastery of English and French, both written and spoken.
  • Strategic mindset to develop integrated communication and engagement plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with senior management.
  • Ability to question how things are done and to proactively develop ingenious solutions in the interest of good management.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple urgent projects and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Strong ability to act independently, stay organized and focus on priorities.
  • Experience in a large corporation with national or international operations.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and diligence
