The Data & Analytics team at Loblaw is hiring a Data Engineer II with experience in building cloud-based modern data platforms from the ground up. Reporting to the Director - Data Engineering, the incumbent will be responsible for ingesting, wrangling, cleansing and delivering data to power our Analytics, BI and ML/AI capabilities. The successful candidate will be passionate about data and have a strong foundation of data management concepts and engineering best practices.

What You'll Do:

• Build and maintain batch and real-time data pipelines.

• Build and maintain an API gateway to manage integration points between the data platform and other applications and data consumers.

• Build end-to-end processes supporting data ingestion, data transformations, data wrangling, data cleansing and data delivery.

• Explore opportunities for optimization of existing data pipelines and re-designing of data infrastructure for greater scalability and performance.

• Build and maintain a repository of metadata and lineage information about how data flows through its lifecycle.

• Assist with data-related technical challenges and perform root-cause analysis to answer specific business questions and recommend and implementing ways to improve data reliability, efficiency and quality.

• Contributes to the development and documentation of data management standards framework.

• Mentor and cross-train junior data engineers.

What You'll Bring:

• University degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or related field.

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with strong focus on data.

• 5+ years of relevant OO programming experience using Java and Python.

• Experience working with Cloud data platforms technologies: Google Cloud Platform (Dataflow, Big Query, Apache Beam, Apache Airflow)

• Experience using Gitlab to configure and build CI/CD pipelines.

• Experience with relational databases (Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server) and big data technologies (Hadoop, Hive)

• Advanced knowledge of SQL queries

• Superb analytical and conceptual thinking skills; to not only manipulate but also derive meaningful interpretations from data

• Ability to take initiative, multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

• Capability to liaise with all levels across the enterprise on projects and ad-hoc requests

• Strong detail orientation is essential in this role

• A Team player and self-starter
