About the opportunity:
The Vice President, Engineering and Strategic Projects will lead the engineering function and oversee all strategic projects, managing a capital expenditure budget exceeding $100M. This role is pivotal in driving forward-thinking initiatives, establishing strong stakeholder relationships, and ensuring fast implementation of projects. Reporting to the SVP Industrial Operations, the VP, Engineering will oversee the Lactalis Canada engineering team. The role acts as a bridge (coordinating and optimizing activity as well as allocation and prioritization of scarce resources) between engineering, sites and divisions and or enabling functions in the business.
The attributes we are looking for:
- Strategic Leadership:
Oversee all strategic engineering and project initiatives, ensuring alignment with short-, mid- and long-term business goals.
Manage a capital expenditure budget of over $100M, ensuring efficient and strategic allocation and utilization of resources in alignment with business priorities.
Drive forward-thinking projects that extend several years into the future, positioning the company at the forefront of the industry.
- Strategic Stakeholder Engagement:
Establish and maintain strong relationships with government funding bodies, suppliers, and other key stakeholders.
Collaborate closely with the different Divisions and Functions to ensure cohesive project execution.
- Project Oversight:
Lead the planning, direction, and operation of capital projects, including monitoring performance against budgets.
Ensure fast and effective implementation of projects, maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.
- Team Leadership and Development:
Provide leadership and direction to the engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence in alignment with corporate and divisional goals.
- Technical Oversight:
Develop and implement equipment strategies, including sourcing and standardization.
Participate in maintenance initiatives, introducing new concepts and programs for predictive and preventative maintenance.
- Organizational Excellence:
Foster a culture of collaboration, empowerment, and capability within the engineering function as well as with the divisions and corporate functions.
Ensure compliance with environmental and safety procedures, motivating staff and providing technical direction and guidance.
What you will bring:
Education & Experience
Engineering degree (preferably Mechanical Engineering).
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in engineering, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role.
Extensive experience in the dairy industry is essential.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Exceptional leadership and organizational skills.
Proven ability to manage large budgets and complex projects.
Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact professionally with vendors, contractors, and stakeholders.
In-depth knowledge of regulatory codes and regulations (building, safety, TSSA, etc.).
Expertise in food industry processes, maintenance, instrumentation, PLC, and SCADA controls.
Excellent presentation, communication, and time management skills.
Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams.
Strategic thinker with a proactive approach to problem-solving and innovation.
