About the role:

Have an impact in this newly created role that's central to our Gen35 Strategy. We're seeking an experienced Technical Manager to lead and oversee the technical aspects of our energy projects within the Asset Delivery function from pre-construction through to post-construction and operational handover. You'll work closely with our Generation Development and Asset Management functions, ensuring seamless transition of projects between phases in their lifecycle. Other key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage technical workstreams and engineering resourcing.
  • Define technical requirements and support the preparation of project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
  • Plan and manage the design process for projects.
  • Lead the preparation of contract specifications and provide technical input and evaluation during procurement.
  • Oversee quality assurance and technical compliance during manufacture and construction.
  • Support commissioning, operational readiness, and project close-out activities.

About you:

You’re a highly skilled engineering professional with a tertiary qualification in engineering or a related field, that has proven engineering leadership experience. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of construction, power generation technology, and the electricity industry in New Zealand, along with a solid grasp of various contracts including consultancy services, major equipment supply, construction, and EPC. Experience in the areas of project management, BESS, renewable technologies, grid connections, and EIPC is highly valued. Other key experience will include:

  • A proven track record of supporting complex projects and achieving positive technical and quality outcomes.
  • Experience in renewable energy projects, grid-connections, commissioning new generating plant, and navigating Transpower’s requirements and processes will be advantageous.
  • Proven engineering experience in the energy or utilities sector.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of engineering design, quality management, and procurement processes.
