Cost Accountant

Summary:
Works with Tsubaki of Canada's VP of Finance to formulate current and long-range costing decisions, profitability objectives, and establishes accountability within the shop floor and manufacturing departments in order to achieve those corporate objectives.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Planning, studying, and collecting shop floor data to determine costs/profitability of manufacturing activities down to micro work center productivity.
  2. Coach shop floor employees on accurate recording of work order times.
  3. Analyzing data collected and recorded results.
  4. Develop and prepare detailed monthly production reporting metrics supporting the director of manufacturing.
  5. Analyzing changes in product routings, raw materials, and manufacturing methods provided to determine effects on cost.
  6. Analyzing actual manufacturing costs and preparing periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual for F/S purposes.
  7. Support the director of Manufacturing in controlling manufacturing expenditures.
  8. Analyzing current spending/costs and opportunities for improvement.
  9. Assist in evaluating estimates for new and proposed asset acquisitions (assess accuracy of estimates & proposals).
  10. Providing management with reports specifying and comparing factors affecting prices and profitability of products (supporting technical support group in the development of quoting tools).
  11. Maintaining QAD’s Cost Accounting System.
  12. Assisting in the month-end close of the General Ledger.
  13. Conducting physical inventory cycle counts when necessary and monitoring the integrity of the cycle count program.
  14. Reconciling finished goods inventories.

Education and Experience:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
  2. Minimum of 2 solid years of Cost Accounting in a Manufacturing Environment.
  3. Must have a strong Cost systems background and have excellent analytical skills; sound understanding of accounting principles.
  4. Computer Literate - Strong Excel skills and the ability to use Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  5. Experience with QAD (Shop floor control) is a plus.
  6. Experience working with engineering and manufacturing personnel on development and analysis of cost standards.
  7. Ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
