Toronto Ontario, Ontario, Canada Transforming Emotions Part time

Seeking Registered Psychologists and/or Psychological Associates (Autonomous or Supervised Practice)

Do you love working with emotion and the therapeutic relationship in therapy? Have you been feeling lonely and disconnected in your clinical work? Tired of juggling marketing, phone screens, invoicing, and staying on top of changing legal and ethical requirements for practice? Are you seeking to make a move from institutional work to private practice? Are you passionate about lifelong learning? Are you seeking new opportunities for professional development and growth?

We are currently seeking full- and part-time Clinical Psychologists, Psychological Associates, or individuals in Supervised Practice with the College of Psychologists of Ontario to provide couples therapy, family therapy, and individual therapy in both in-person (downtown Toronto) and virtual environments.

Transforming Emotions (TE) is a group practice, originally based out of downtown Toronto, that is committed to creating an inclusive team environment with a focus on life-long learning, warm collegiality, high quality evidence-based care, and anti-racist and queer positive practices. Clinicians at TE describe a warm environment where they feel their personal and professional development is fostered. We welcome bringing your whole self to work, and strongly believe that the best resource we can give to a client is a well-resourced and well-trained clinician.

Historically, we have focused on the application and training of Emotion Focused Therapy to the treatment of anxiety, mood disorders, and childhood trauma, and to supporting individuals through challenges including but not limited to body image concerns, grief and loss, life transitions, and relationship stress. As we have grown, our team has expanded to attract and include individuals working from a variety of evidence-based experiential modalities, including integration of cognitive modalities, and including a focus on working with families and couples.

We are currently seeking psychologists and/or psychological associates who provide trauma-informed care, and who are excited to contribute to a dynamic and growing practice. The ideal candidate will be comfortable managing a caseload that includes a variety of mental-health challenges and life concerns, and will work with clients to collaboratively identify goals and confirm treatment plans.

Objectives of this role

  • Provide exemplary psychological care to clients seeking help for a range of presenting concerns.
  • Collaborate as a member of a multidisciplinary team, with regular opportunities for peer case consultation.
  • Support clients by delivering therapy that is appropriate to their unique mental-health issues
  • Establish relationships with clients that enable the best possible care while maintaining professional boundaries and respecting confidentiality

Responsibilities

  • Assess and provide evidence-based treatment for clients presenting with emotional and psychological concerns.
  • Assess for and convey a mental health diagnosis when therapeutically relevant and/or when required as part of accommodation planning.
  • Establish rapport with clients to facilitate an environment conducive to treatment gains.
  • Implement treatment consistent with a client’s needs
  • Complete all clinical documentation in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform duties while adhering to professional standards such as the Canadian Code of Ethics for Psychologists and Standards of Professional Conduct (2024) for Psychologists registered in Ontario.
  • Available for a minimum of 12 clinical hours/week. Availability during evening and weekends may maximize caseload growth based on current patterns of requests for clinician availability.

Required skills and qualifications

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in psychology
  • Registration with the College of Psychologists for the practice of psychology (including supervised practice)
  • Experience in providing psychological services to adults.
  • Prior training in and/or demonstrates a strong interest in integrating into practice experiential therapeutic modalities such as EFT (Emotion Focused Therapy or Emotionally Focused Therapy), EFFT/EFST, EMDR, AEDP, IFS or similar models.

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Doctor of psychology degree (or equivalent)
  • Flexibility regarding work hours and duties performed
  • Prior experience and/or interest in clinical supervision
  • Willingness to go above and beyond in providing patients with therapy that meets their unique needs
  • Experience working with couples, adolescents, children and/or families is an asset. Experience working with ADHD, autism-spectrum disorders in post-secondary students and adults, body image concerns, outpatient eating disorders is considered an asset.
  • Interest in proposing and launching a psychodiagnostic assessment program grounded in trauma-informed, client-centered practices at Transforming Emotions would be considered an asset.

Benefits of Joining the TE Team

  • Competitive compensation
  • New client referrals
  • Pre-established intake processes to maximize appropriate fit between client and clinician
  • Access to office space for in-person sessions, by request and pending availability
  • An administrative team to support your practice
  • Opportunities to attend free professional development seminars annually
  • Discounted attendance at trainings offered by Dr. Sarah Thompson
  • Optional monthly group peer consultation, optional monthly individual consultation, and optional peer consultation for clinical supervisors (for clinical supervisors only), all with Dr. Sarah Thompson
