Sunshine Coast Community Services Society (‘SCCSS”) is a community-based organization that has been providing services for people on the Sunshine Coast since 1974. SCCSS is a non-government organization overseen by a volunteer board of directors, funded by government contracts, foundations, and community donations.

SCCSS employs 85+ professional staff, works with 175+ volunteers, and provides services through more than 30 programs all along the Coast in four key areas - Community Action and Engagement; Together Against Violence; Child and Family Counselling; and Family, Youth and Children's Services.

Reporting to the Executive Director and supported by a team of 2 accounting clerks and 1 payroll administrator, the Accounting Manager will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver on the financial obligations of the non-profit entity – ensuring funders, auditors, and the Board of Directors are well apprised of the financial performance of SCCSS.

Some Key Responsibilities Include:

  1. Oversee all financials ensuring timely and accurate reporting of cash flow, budget, forecasting, and other supporting financial information needed for decision-making.
  2. As Advisor to the SLP, meet with SLT members quarterly to review their program financial reports and discuss ways to address any variances.
  3. Prepare financial statements at fiscal year-end in accordance with GAAP and Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations.
  4. Ensure funders – tax receipts, work with ministry, reporting, etc.
  5. Liaise with the Finance Audit Committee, funders, and external auditors as necessary.
  6. Act as a key point of contact for all grant applications for the Ministry of Family and Child Development, Vancouver Coastal Health, Solicitor General, and other government bodies.
  7. Ensure all funding received by SCCSS is accurately tracked, funders are well informed and Charitable requirements are met in a timely and accurate manner.
  8. Maximize use of the accounting (Sage) and payroll (Payworks) systems and internal financial controls to ensure the integrity and reliability of the financial data and timely payment for staff.
  9. Lead payroll management for SCCSS.
  10. Ensure compliance with internal financial policies and procedures.
  11. Oversee all compliance, risk mitigation, and audit requirements for the Society.
  12. Assist the ED in presenting the financial Board package and other financial information for the Finance Audit Committee and attend Board meetings when required.
  13. Negotiate with Banks for lines of credit or other financial services as required and appropriate, in conjunction with the Finance Audit Committee.
  14. Lead transition of Sage 300 ERP to become a cloud-based system.
As The Ideal Candidate:
SCCSS is looking to meet candidates who possess a nice mix of the following:
  1. Recognized accounting designation CPA (CMA, CGA, or CA).
  2. Experience in accounting within a non-profit setting plus in a management capacity.
  3. Good understanding of risk management, fiscal responsibility, financial reporting, funding, contract laws, budgeting, and partnership arrangements.
  4. Knowledge of GAAP plus federal and provincial legislations as it pertains to non-profit accounting principles, standards, and regulations.
  5. Experience mentoring a team as well as acting as a key advisor across the organization on accounting matters.
  6. Able to connect business vision and objectives into programs and policies within the accounting department.
  7. Experience with risk management, insurance coverage, and compliance.
  8. Comfort in using Sage ERP systems and Payworks would be ideal.
  9. Strong technical writing skills. Experience in writing policies, proposals, and grants.
  10. Comfortable in collaborating with government bodies, private and public sector, and community agencies to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
Compensation:
Base Salary in the $78K to $85K range per year. The final base salary amount will depend on the background and skillset of the chosen candidate. Full benefits, 3 weeks’ vacation to start, pension after 6 months, and coverage of CPA dues as well as professional development opportunities. Relocation support where possible.
