Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity for an Occupational Therapist (OT) interested in working with adults living in the community who require complex and/or individualized rehabilitation. We are seeking an OT II to provide occupational therapy assessment and treatment for individuals with new and chronic medical conditions. This position will provide direct individual and group OT services within an interdisciplinary team that may include PT, RN, RD, R Psych., SW, and TA. Services will be provided in the clinic as well as virtually. The successful candidate will be required to maintain adequate clinical records of services provided & clinical outcomes, provide rehabilitation consultation to other staff, and mentor/supervise new staff, OT students, and TAs. The OT is also expected to collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, community-based physicians, community programs, and other stakeholders. The OT will provide effective patient care including making recommendations to support program discharge planning and may provide support to other community sites as operationally required.

Description:

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge, and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient, and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics, and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow, and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator, and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current practice permit with a minimum of 5 years of experience in rehabilitation practice, including community rehabilitation and/or outpatient specialized service settings. Extensive knowledge of patient population needs, health care continuum, and leading practices in collaborative, interdisciplinary rehabilitation. Extensive knowledge of pre- and postsurgical care needs and practices. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills, including an ability to develop therapeutic relationships and navigate sensitive situations. Ability to create effective internal and external partnerships. Aptitude for performing in an environment of innovation, continuous change, and learning. Excellent clinical reasoning and decision-making skills. Initiative and ability to work independently in clinical and virtual settings. Ability and willingness to travel to a number of community sites and client homes as required. BLS-HCP Certification is required. In a community setting, there are occasionally some physical demands with transporting equipment, therapy materials (20-50 lbs) or bending/rotation, etc. as required for clinical duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

Canadian Occupational Therapy Association membership preferred, or other organization closely affiliated to occupational therapy practice areas is an asset. OT II may sit for long periods of time.
