Plant Manager

As Plant Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all site operations, ensuring production targets are met, and maintaining high-quality standards. You will lead and develop the workforce, drive operational efficiencies, and work closely with senior leadership to execute strategic plans.

Key Responsibilities

People Management & Workforce Planning:

  • Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of all site employees.
  • Develop and implement workforce planning strategies, including resilience and succession planning, in collaboration with Group HR.
  • Manage recruitment, training, and professional development of employees within budgetary constraints.
  • Set performance goals, conduct appraisals, and handle performance management and disciplinary processes.
  • Ensure critical business processes are well-documented, communicated, and adhered to.
  • Champion Group HR initiatives and foster a positive, performance-driven culture.

Operations Management:

  • Oversee end-to-end operational processes, ensuring on-time and high-quality order delivery.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce costs of poor quality (COPQ), including scrap, rework, and customer complaints.
  • Ensure full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain ISO9001 and other necessary certifications for site operations.
  • Set, track, and report on key operational performance indicators (KPIs).

Business Performance:

  • Develop and execute operational plans aligned with sales strategies and business growth objectives.
  • Work with Group Finance to manage cash flow, operational expenditure, and materials procurement.
  • Identify risks to achieving monthly revenue targets and coordinate actions to mitigate them.
  • Drive margin improvement through process efficiency, labour cost reduction, and procurement strategies.
  • Manage stock levels to balance economic order quantities and minimise obsolescence.

Site Management:

  • Maintain a business risk register and ensure risks are effectively mitigated.
  • Implement and uphold 7S standards to ensure a clean, efficient, and presentable site.
  • Oversee site maintenance, ensuring all equipment and infrastructure comply with legal and insurance requirements.
  • Work with Group ITC to maintain cybersecurity and ensure IT systems and equipment remain fit for purpose.
  • Ensure site security measures are in place to protect employees, assets, and sensitive customer data.

Customer Engagement:

  • Represent the company in key customer meetings and engagements.
  • Maintain regular contact with top customers to strengthen relationships and address concerns.
  • Lead initiatives to resolve quality issues and use customer feedback to drive improvements.
  • Organise and manage customer site visits and audits to showcase operational capabilities.

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Plant Manager or similar leadership role within a manufacturing or production environment.
  • Strong people management skills with experience in recruitment, training, and performance management.
  • Demonstrable experience in driving operational excellence, cost reduction, and process improvements.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 certification and compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Experience managing budgets, stock control, and operational KPIs.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a customer-focused approach.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to foster a culture of continuous improvement and teamwork.
