Position SummaryReporting to the Manager, Engineering & Projects Group, the Process Engineer, Technologies provides process engineering services to assist the project team in identifying and developing technical solutions required to meet the objectives of Technologies research and engineering projects, while satisfying safety, quality, and environmental criteria.
Accountabilities- Provide process engineering services to support the effective execution of approved Technologies projects within agreed parameters and plans.
- Participate in pilot plant campaigns, plant start-ups, and plant audits.
- Contribute to the development of engineering capital and operating cost estimates.
- Contribute to optimizing the performance of the Process Engineering team by following good or best practices, embracing a culture of continuous improvement and lean thinking, seeking technical innovation, and following management systems.
- Participate in PHA (including HAZOP’s) and risk assessment meetings, selected based on the suitability of the methodology to the complexity of the project, and generating and/or reviewing PHA documentation.
- Assist with the generation of process engineering deliverables which include but are not limited to: flow sheets, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), mass and energy balances, equipment sizing, hydraulics, thermodynamics, mass transfer, process design specifications, equipment layouts, Process Control Operating Philosophies, alarm and interlock reviews, control strategy documents, design criteria, design basis, preliminary and detailed engineering reports, and engineering feasibility studies.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical or Metallurgical (Extractive) Engineering or Diploma in Chemical/Metallurgical Engineering Technology.
- Eligible for registration with APEGA as an Engineer-in-Training (E.I.T.).
- Working knowledge of unit operations in chemical engineering (reactors, heat exchangers, filters etc.).
- Working knowledge of hydrometallurgical processes is an asset.
- Familiarity with Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with engineering tools, including process simulation software.
