Fort Saskatchewan Alberta PL, Edmonton region, Canada Plains All American Pipeline Full time

Job Type:

Regular

Plains Midstream Canada (PMC) is an industry-leading transportation and midstream provider specializing in transportation, storage, processing and marketing solutions for crude oil and natural gas liquids (NGLs). PMC also operates strategically-located facilities for crude oil and NGL storage, separates NGL from natural gas and fractionates NGL into pure liquid petroleum gas (LPG) products, including propane and butane.

Fueled by our strong leadership team and a dedicated employee base, combined with our expertise in marketing, logistics and our asset base, PMC is well-positioned to provide our customers with flexible, value-added services now and in the future.

Our Operations department is a talented group of professionals who are committed to conducting our business in a manner that ensures the safety and security of the public, our employees and contractors, our assets and the environment. We want consistent and predictable operations done the right way, every time.

Plains currently has an immediate opening for a Facility Engineer to join our Operations Engineering Group. As a Facility Engineer you will be responsible for providing Operations and Maintenance technical support, delivering maintenance projects, and optimization/troubleshooting activities at the Buck Creek Fractionation Plant (near Drayton Valley), Edmonton Storage Terminal, and Fort Saskatchewan Fractionation and Storage facility. Your expertise will ensure the smooth operation of our infrastructure, which is vital for the transportation and storage of natural gas liquids (NGLs). We are looking for candidates who thrive in a fast-paced environment and are confident in their ability to work on multiple projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and recommend project scopes to improve performance in terms of reliability, safety, environmental performance, efficiency, and net revenue;
  • Provide Engineering support to ensure that maximum benefit is obtained from process or operational changes without negatively impacting the safety or operability of production facilities;
  • Provide technical support to troubleshoot issues and optimize operations at the Buck Creek Fractionation Plant, Fort Saskatchewan Fractionation Plant, Edmonton Storage Terminal, and Northern Alberta facilities. Provide innovative, cost-effective solutions to these issues;
  • Lead or assist projects related to plant piping, rotating equipment, storage, pipelines, and rail/truck loading (Review of applicable piping codes – ASME B31.3 / CSA Z662 and PMC piping specifications, development of construction drawings, QA/QC requirements, as-built drawing updates). Provide project management services (procurement, contractor evaluations, pre-job meetings) and authenticate IFC documents (P&IDs, Piping Isometrics) as required to successfully complete these projects;
  • Assist large expansion projects by collaborating with Calgary project managers, EPC contract engineers, and other Engineering team members related to project design, construction, and start-up activities;
  • Ensure compliance to standards and regulatory requirements applicable to project activities (manage license to operate, facility upgrade, and HSE projects ensuring that engineering meets regulatory requirements, engineering specifications, and environmental and safety risk management);
  • Perform simple and more detailed economic analysis of projects. Recognize the key business drivers which generate value (low operating costs, flexibility, importance of reacting to outside business influences);
  • Lead and participate in Process Safety related evaluations/analysis (HAZOP, LOPA, MOC checklists, etc.) of facility assets and new projects;
  • Perform detailed facility and equipment performance tests including analysis of results; and
  • Participate in incident investigations, process and equipment failure analysis, emergency response drills and actual events as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Petroleum Engineering is preferred and Registered Professional Engineer (APEGA)
  • Minimum 3 years facility/operations/project experience in a similar role within the oil and gas industry;
  • Working knowledge of industry codes and regulatory requirements;
  • Knowledgeable in project management processes;
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Safety certifications relevant to the industry are an asset.
  • Permanent residency within 120 KM of the Fort Saskatchewan facility is required.
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean abstract.
  • Cleared criminal history (background) and satisfactory reference checks.
  • Compliance with the Company’s drug and alcohol policy including pre-employment D&A testing.

Working Conditions:

  • This position can be based at the Plains Fort Saskatchewan facility or Buck Creek plant (Drayton Valley) but will require 1-2 days per week of travel to other field office locations (Buck Creek – Drayton Valley, Sherwood Park – Edmonton Terminal, Fort Saskatchewan) using a company vehicle.

Our employees drive our success. At Plains, hard work is rewarded with competitive compensation and a top-tier benefits program designed to keep you safe, healthy and happy.
