Financial Planning & Analysis Lead

The Financial Planning and Analysis Lead (FP&A Lead) performs complex financial analysis based on past, present and future operations at Côté Gold. The FP&A Lead researches, analyzes and reports fluctuations in financial and business results and works collaboratively with stakeholders to identify trends and make recommendations to improve company performance.

Key Responsibilities

Area 1:

  • Lead financial analysis and reporting.
  • Develop, improve and maintain financial analysis models.
  • Recommend improvements to accounting systems and processes to ensure maximum efficiency and appropriate utilization of resources.
  • Prepare, analyze and report on changes in production, cash costs, net income, operating cash flow and capital expenditure, highlighting changes to help understand key drivers of the business.
  • Monitor and evaluate individual department expenses and identify any specific trends to optimize cost control.
  • Work collaboratively with the different departments to understand variances and optimize cost control.
  • Prepare reports and related analysis that effectively summarize raw data and identify trends and variances to optimize operations and assist in financial decision-making. This will include monthly, quarterly and annual reports.
  • Assist in the preparation of internal and external reporting to Cote Gold Management, IAMGOLD Management, the Board and other parties as required.
  • Timely and accurate closing of the Cote Gold ledger.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries, reconciliations and quarterly questionnaires.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual variance analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Assist in management of Cote Gold chart of accounts.
  • Develop cost allocation strategies with the team.
  • Advise on cost coding and on the purchasing process when needed.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments in the management of the fixed assets & leases register and capital expenditure process; project accounting for construction-in-progress; inventory accounting (finished goods, stockpiles, gold-in-circuit) and calculation of capitalized waste stripping; etc.

Area 2:

Provide expertise in budgeting and forecasting.

  • Coach and provide expertise in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts for the development of business plans.
  • Prepare and update the monthly forecast.
  • Support life of mine budgeting and forecasting.
  • Prepare the budget templates, work collaboratively with stakeholders to complete the templates and consolidate into the financial model.
  • Evaluate the budget process and implement improvements.
  • Detect inconsistencies and show critical thinking while reviewing the budget.
  • Suggest, analyze, and comment on the assumptions used in the budget.

Area 3:

Work collaboratively with others to deliver innovative continuous improvement opportunities.

  • Provide day-to-day guidance and coaching to Financial Analysts.
  • Seek and implement best-in-class practices.
  • Propose new methods to meet challenges of financial analysis.
  • Propose and improve the design to address process constraints while remaining cost efficient.
  • Keep abreast of trends in financial analysis and impart to Cote Gold.
  • Provide new approaches, methods or policies to optimize performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational standards.
  • Continuously seek to improve technical knowledge and skills.
  • Conduct research and benchmarking to support decision-making and improve financial processes, technologies and methodologies.
  • Any other tasks as may be assigned from time to time.

Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves

  • Post-secondary degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field.
  • Formal professional designation (CPA or equivalent) is considered an asset.
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in the mining industry is considered an asset.
  • English proficiency for written and oral communications.
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office, including a high level of proficiency in MS Excel.
  • Knowledge of Oracle or an ERP considered an asset.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Exceptional analytical skills.
  • Must be able to handle a high level of confidentiality.
  • Very well-organized.
