Overview

Reporting to the VP, Operations, the Director of Operations is accountable for all production in Toronto sites. With direct reports in Maintenance, Production, and Special Projects, the incumbent will have a clear mandate to drive overall improvement and leadership within the sites. Specific attention will be centered on formalizing maintenance protocols in order to better represent more predictive and proactive practices while also instilling a CI mindset that would impact every other aspect of the operation. In addition, employee engagement and leadership will be an instrumental component of success as the organization seeks to drive a sense of ownership and empowerment within the manufacturing operations. The diverse workforce experiences little turnover, other than seasonal adjustments, and the expectation of engagement and development of supervisory staff will be a key measure of impact for the successful candidate. You will work in a dynamic and changing environment, with a constant focus on continuous improvement. You will be responsible to perform all of your work by integrating all aspects SQDCM (Safety/Quality/Delivery/Cost/Moral).

Responsibilities
  1. Support Plats du Chef’s growth vision and create a high-performance culture.
  2. Manage production expectations in a cost-effective fashion and drive production efficiency through identification of continuous improvement initiatives.
  3. Lead all aspects of Health, Safety, and Quality Assurance to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.
  4. Lead the process of systems development, implementation, and management including audits and compliance measures.
  5. Improve plant performance and consistency of results through employee development, preventive maintenance, process improvements, and capital projects implementation.
  6. Manage budgeting activities and ongoing cost management.
  7. Ensure an engaged workforce by leading, coaching, and inspiring plant employees to achieve their potential.
  8. Manage all human resources related matters including hiring, training, coaching & development, performance management, communications, and formal/informal rewards.
  9. Support the execution of all current projects and the development and justification of all future capital projects.
  10. Lead Lean manufacturing initiatives to further drive efficiency.
  11. Effectively implement and adhere to company’s Food Safety and Quality Policies and Procedures including but not limited to SQF, HACCP, and GMP to ensure food safety and quality of products manufactured.
Requirements
  1. A minimum of 10 years in a progressive leadership role within a food manufacturing or processing environment.
  2. A university degree or college diploma.
  3. An exhibited experience of improving operations through practical solutions and empowering a workforce to take ownership of respective areas.
  4. Strong communication skills that can adapt to both formal and informal settings.
  5. A hands-on demeanor that is prepared to lead by example while also enabling direct reports through support, mentorship, and direct training.
  6. A mature and accomplished demeanor that is able to influence and work well with other key stakeholders in the organization.
  7. Commercially astute and able to initiate solutions and work closely with the VP of Operations on improvement strategies for the operations.
