The Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is an acute care hospital offering both inpatient (600 beds including Medical, Surgical, Pediatrics, Women’s Health and Critical Care) and outpatient services. The PLC is the Vascular Centre for Southern Alberta, Southwestern Saskatchewan and Southeastern British Columbia. The Allied Health Department at PLC is comprised of Rehabilitation, Social Work, and Spiritual Care staff. These staff are vital members of the interdisciplinary team to provide patient and family-centered care throughout the hospital. Under general supervision from the Clinical Leader and Allied Health management, the successful candidate will gain experience in the triage, assessment, treatment, education and management of patients within a variety of clinical areas. This position works with both the inpatient as well as the outpatient adult dysphagia population. Based on operational requirements, workload may vary between inpatient and outpatient areas. The Speech-Language Pathologist will also participate in program evaluation and outcomes, continuing education, peer evaluation, and student supervision. At all times the Speech-Language Pathologist will ensure that their practice is evidence-based and meets ACSLPA clinical standards of practice. This Speech-Language Pathologist will benefit from working experience in dysphagia assessment utilizing MBS and FEES with a diverse patient population while being supported by a social, team-oriented department. To be successful in this role, you will possess an understanding of how patients and family are at the center of care strategies to build inclusive environments that reflect the needs and supports required for the populations that we serve (ethno-cultural, equity-seeking, racialized, faith-based, LGBTQ2S+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons of all age groups).

Description:

As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will provide clinical professional practice both independently and as a part of a collaborative team, which may include external partners. You will be responsible for providing prevention, health promotion, identification, assessment, intervention, and case management. You will participate in the planning, coordination, and delivery of rehabilitation services in collaboration with patients/clients, families, healthcare professionals, and other partners. Your leadership and interpersonal skills will aid you in supervising students and providing clinical guidance to other staff as appropriate. You will use your clinical expertise to inform ongoing quality improvement, service integration, and program development.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent experience with adult dysphagia including MBS assessments required. Current CPR (BLS - Health Care Provider Level C) certification required. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated excellent organizational and time management skills to successfully complete multiple, competing priorities. Proven initiative, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to function effectively within a patient and family-centered team of health care professionals and support staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

Instrumental swallowing assessment experience within the last 3 years preferred. MBSImp training preferred. Experience with FEES is an asset. Experience working with diverse patient populations. Experience in program development and practice improvement. Familiarity with clinical software including: Netcare, Nuance PS360 (dictation), Connect Care.
