Are YOU our next Director, Facilities and Real Estate?
Reporting to the Vice President, Insurance Solutions, Logististics, Facilities and Real Estate, the Director, Real Estate & Facilities will be accountable for providing strategic leadership, direction, and expertise in the real estate & management of facilities operations across a broad portfolio of sites across Canada.
This leadership position requires strategic planning, development, implementation, administration, and budgeting, as well as providing technical expertise and serving as a resource to all departments for property-related engineering, environmental safety, security, and operational issues. The Director, Real Estate & Facilities will act as the primary liaison with external vendors, suppliers, general contractors, and regulatory agencies for facilities-related matters in collaboration with the local site leaders. This role oversees all real estate and lease renewal execution, construction, cost estimates associated with building renovations, and construction management to ensure timely completion of build/renovation projects within budget.

How YOU will make a difference:
Facilities Management
- Oversees all aspects of facilities management across the Dynacare network, including labs, LHSCs, offices, warehouses, and office facilities across Canada.
- Contributes to strategic planning by evaluating and projecting future facility needs and proposing options to achieve them.
- Develops policies, procedures and standards geared to promote effective operations of facility management.
- Prepare and manage departmental and capital budgets.
Real Estate
- Responsible to take a lead team role in identifying and managing policy changes that may affect the development approvals process at all government levels.
- Negotiate with landowners and/or agents the terms of acquisition.
- Work closely with finance department in coordinating deposit and closing funds and financial structure of transactions.
- Work with legal counsel to ensure the successful completion of all transactions.
- Provide executive management with advice on the implications of real estate activities.
- Provide timely and accurate analysis of real estate trends and forecasts.
People Leadership
- Builds, develops, and maintains a high level of staff performance through effective use of people leadership practices and procedures, including recruitment, selection, hiring, training, development, motivation, and performance evaluation of direct reports.
- Provides mentorship, coaching and development opportunities to enhance performance and to enable direct reports to achieve their accountabilities.
Space Planning and Design
- In collaboration with the senior leadership team and internal stakeholders, define near-term and long-term space needs.
- Provide expertise in space analysis, planning and design, project management and construction along with capital planning and budget.
Security Operations
- Oversees security program by working with vendors, local site leaders and facilities management team to ensure safe and sustainable level of security services, including building access through mechanical and electronic systems, photo identification, CCTV, and parking management.
- Ensures that applicable emergency and business continuity management programs are fully developed and updated annually.
Environmental Health and Safety:
- Oversees the environmental health safety programs working with a team of senior leaders, site leaders, facilities management team and vendors.
- Ensures a superior level of services and oversight in the areas of biological and chemical hygiene and safety, waste management, environmental health, and emergency management across the Dynacare facilities.
- Play an active role in Workplace Health & Safety Committees.
What YOU bring to the role:
- Broad knowledge of facilities management including but not limited to; heating, air conditioning, electrical and plumbing systems, including equipment maintenance and repairs, environmental health and safety, custodial services, and construction.
- 8+ years in a senior facilities management role, preferably within multi-site lab operations, hospital, or pharmaceutical industry.
- Vendor management experience ensuring high value contracts and services delivery.
- Strong negotiations and dispute resolution.
- Project management skills working across a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment with solid organizational, multi-tasking capability, and prioritization skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build trusting and collaborative relationships both internally and externally.
- Effective time management to deliver on multiple priorities on time and at the required level of quality.
- Leading of high performing teams with appropriate coaching and mentoring support.
- Effective customer relationship management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with great influencing and collaboration skills.
Working conditions:
- Travel will be required 20%
