Job Summary
The Senior Manager, Revenue Planning is responsible for leading the consolidation, communication, and insight generation of CN's consolidated revenues and volumes. The incumbent is a key advisor to both the Financial Planning and Sales and Marketing leadership teams, including the Chief Communications Officer (CCO) and the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The role works with the Business Unit Vice-Presidents (VPs) to develop, understand, and present their forecasts, identify risks and opportunities, provide actionable insights, and foster a culture of control, simplification, challenging the status quo, and continuous improvement. The incumbent advises Senior Leadership on progress towards growth initiatives and leads executive reporting initiatives such as board materials and forecasts. Furthermore, the incumbent plays a key role in the Sales and Operations Planning process, communicating the latest volume forecast to the Operations team to ensure appropriate resourcing of crews, locomotives, rail equipment, and track infrastructure.
Main Responsibilities
Revenue and Demand Planning
Lead current and multi-year revenue and demand issues, driving monitoring, analysis, and communication of performance
Understand expected monthly, quarterly, and yearly forecasts and insights on the current outlook view, emerging issues, and opportunities, as well as suggested courses of action to capitalize or mitigate the situation
Forecast, monitor, and communicate top line information to deliver results, including progress on strategic growth initiatives
Track revenue, volume, pricing, and non-linehaul performance throughout the year, providing status, key messages, and suggested remedies directly to the VP, Financial Planning
Drive transparent reporting of top line results that link market insights and past performance with future outlook
Ensure accuracy and predictability in results
Use financial information to drive accountability and performance in the business for better financial outcomes
Support the development of CN's Business Plan, playing a key role linking the Marketing team to the financial outlook
Oversee Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance for the Revenue Planning team across numerous underlying processes
Provide insights into results and demand forecasts for various teams including Investor Relations, Strategy, Accounting, and Internal Audit
Work with the Capital team to ensure the rolling 3 year project list and priorities are aligned with financial targets
Create CN Equipment Demand Plan for Car Management based on the demand plan
Maintain Strategic Projects dashboard integrated with resource planning process
Perform various ad hoc reports and analyses for stakeholders including CCO, Sales and Marketing, Office of the Chief executive Officer (CEO), Investor Relations, Public Affairs, Auditors, and Strategy
Executive Reporting
Lead preparation of board presentations (e.g., Commercial Update, Progress on Growth Initiatives) and associated backup information
Lead production of reports delivered to executives (e.g., Volume and Revenue Year-End Outlook, Same Store Price report, Revenue Planning Monthly report)
Act as a key resource for quarterly disclosures for revenue section
Support CCO in preparation for quarterly earnings call
Provide explanations for variances to forecast, budget, and prior year for internal and external reporting purposes
Rigorously validate information and continuously seek to improve quality to add insights and value in a rapidly changing environment
Revenue Planning Information and Technology Systems
Oversee Systems, Applications, and Products (SAP) demand planning tool development and maintenance, expand and entrench use of within Marketing including unconstrained demand views, seek connections to other CN resource planning systems
Increase departmental capability in business intelligence and data visualization software including Power BI and Tableau
Transition relevant reports to data visualization software and share knowledge
Collaborate with broader Financial Planning team on development of reporting tools
Talent Development
Lead, coach, and develop a team of professionals
Partner and engage with cross-functional peers and other stakeholders, establishing collaborative and productive dotted line relationships
Ensure professional well-being of the team
Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure and stress. The role requires minimal travel within Canada and the United States (U.S.).
Requirements
Experience
Finance, Accounting or Marketing
Between 5 to 10 years of experience in CN Finance, Accounting, or Marketing
Between 3 to 5 years of experience managing direct reports
Education/Certification/Designation
Bachelor's Degree in Commerce or Administration
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or other professional Accounting Degree
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

Fluently bilingual both written and verbal (English, French)
Any knowledge for any of the above would be considered as an asset
