Options Community Services is a non-profit registered charity providing social services primarily in Surrey, Delta, White

Rock and Langley. We believe in helping people help themselves. We believe in collaborating with individuals,

businesses, community groups and government to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the

community.

The Family Strengthening Clinician will provide culturally agile gang prevention and/or intervention services to the

youth and families community that focus on practical strategies, skill development, and safety planning which

increases the family's capacity to reduce identified risk factors.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Participate in intake process and case management/goal setting as directed by the Program Manager.
  • Provide communitybased individual or family counselling using a trauma informed approach focused on
enhancing gang prevention protective factors to support at-risk family members in choosing a promising
pathway.

  • Establish goals that are relevant, clear and concrete and will support client's in implementing intervention
strategies that will enhance and strengthen the family.

  • Develop and implement therapeutic service plans and programs necessary to meet client goals and objectives;
utilizing a crisis intervention approach where necessary.

  • Maintain an uptodate knowledge of community resources and provide appropriate referrals to clients to meet
their needs.

  • Formulate and facilitate support and education for clients and/or their families as required.
  • Provide household management and other life skills training; particularly skills training related to gang
prevention issues.

  • Support Options Youth Services team with consultation support and by participating in regular team meetings.
  • Support the City of Surrey's SAFE initiative and provide required information to the Children and Youth at Risk
Table (CHART).

  • Liaise with other professionals and agencies in the community and represent the program and the Society in a
positive manner.

  • Provide statistical and/or narrative reports on services.
  • Maintain documentation and reporting requirements as directed by Program Manager
  • Perform other related duties as required or directed
  • Weekends and evenings may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience:

  • Masters in Clinical Counselling or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Must possess specialized training and experience in delivering trauma informed services and addiction services.
  • Valid Driver's License and access to an appropriately insured personal vehicle for work purposes and
satisfactory driving abstract.

  • Proficiency in at least one of the priority languages to sufficiently serve families in their native language.
  • Lived experience of crosscultural parenting considered an asset.
  • Current First Aid certificate.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Must possess specialized training and experience in delivering trauma informed services and addiction services.
  • Awareness and understanding of the key roles that a person's culture, identity, ethnicity, race, gender and
other aspects of diversity play in the counselling and support process.

  • Broad knowledge of family therapy, behaviour management theory and practice, including trauma informed
service delivery, attachment theory, behaviour modification, and child and family development.

  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Commitment to a problemsolving approach
  • Must be sensitive to and respectful of cultural and lifestyle diversity
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of gang issues that are relevant to the BC landscape.
