Job Summary:

The School of Computer, Data andInformation Sciences (CDIS) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeksa dynamic professional to join our growing team as the CDIS CommonsDirector.

The CDIS Commons will be a user- and learner-oriented set ofservices, spaces and people that serves several thousand students andseveral hundred faculty and staff from across four growing academicdepartments in the new CDIS Building.

The Commons Director will providedirection, vision, oversight and assessment of the spaces, programs, andservices that comprise the CDIS Commons.

The Commons Director willoversee a range of services including Commons space management andassessment, reference and information services, outreach, studentservice points, support for student clubs, library instruction and acirculating collection.

Collaboration with the CDIS Learning Center,campus libraries, and student services will be a critical component ofthis position. The Commons Director will manage a team of professional,graduate and undergraduate student hourly staff. The Commons will alsoprovide training opportunities for information professionals,positioning student staff members in impactful roles within Commonsoperations.

As the inaugural director of the CDIS Commons, thesuccessful candidate will lead the Commons in providing innovativedirections in teaching, learning, and research support.

The candidatefor the position will have a developed understanding of academiclibraries and student ecosystems. Collaboration will be a criticalcomponent of this position.

The Commons Director will closelycollaborate with the Learning Center Director, heads of CDIS departmentsand units, and CDIS faculty and staff to oversee Commons operationsacross multiple floors and service areas.

This position or other Commonsstaff serve as the subject liaison for library and information studiesand information sciences. This position will also collaborate withcampus partners, including campus library leadership, to advanceexcellence in research and education.
