Position Overview

Environmental Coordinators at Kiewit are responsible for leading the environmental program management and implementation on construction projects. This crucial role ensures compliance with legal and contractual environmental requirements both on-site and off-site, while contributing to Kiewit's ongoing commitment to corporate social responsibility.

District Overview

Kiewit's Western Canada District, based in Burnaby, British Columbia, focuses on heavy civil projects such as earth moving, transportation, roadways, bridges, water resources, and underground utilities. We are seeking hardworking individuals with a passion for construction who are not hesitant to dive into hands-on work. Our current opportunities span the entire West Coast of Canada.

Location

This role will be involved in the construction of a project in Squamish, BC, requiring daily travel to the project site.

Responsibilities

  • Lead environmental compliance for projects
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate environmental risks
  • Update environmental plans
  • Oversee field inspections and monitoring
  • Identify and protect wetland and sensitive environmental areas
  • Track project data requirements
  • Monitor and communicate environmental costs
  • Provide environmental protection and awareness training
  • Act as a technical advisor for environmental issues
  • Coordinate work locations, materials, and invoices
  • Ensure compliance with environmental specifications and regulations
  • Prepare reports and communicate risks to management
  • Attend field visits and liaise with clients and regulatory agencies

Qualifications

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in environmental science or engineering
  • 2+ years of experience in environmental compliance for large construction projects
  • Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP) designation preferred
  • Knowledge of Provincial and Federal environmental legislation
  • Demonstrated passion for excellence and safety
  • Strong ethical values and integrity
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Strong organization and time management abilities
  • Willingness to travel and relocate as needed
