Outreach Coordinator - Climate Action (Continuous)

Engineering & Public Works Department

POSITION FUNCTION

KEY

DUTIES
Foster relationships with various community stakeholders to build and cultivate a network of partnerships to advance climate action.

***Create and implement projects and initiatives to involve the public and business community in GHG reduction behaviours and adaptation planning.

Develop educational resources to support public, business and stakeholder action; develop and progress/activity reports and communicate achievements. Periodically assess projects, initiatives and materials to determine efficacy.

Prepare and deliver presentations related to Climate Action Program, both internally and externally.


In support of the City's Climate Action Program, assist with media enquiries including preparation of media releases and supporting materials to raise awareness; develop social media and website content; prepare, coordinate and attend City-hosted and citizen-led public events.

Liaise with the City's Engagement Division to ensure outreach activities are aligned corporately.

Oversee or assist with administration, development and implementation of Climate Action Program plans, policies and initiatives.

Perform related duties where qualified.

INDEPENDENCE:

Work is reviewed through discussions with supervisor and department meetings.

New initiatives, major projects and policies are discussed with supervisor with recommendations.

Issues such as major expenditures or deviations from policy are referred to supervisor.

KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Organize and prioritize work, with excellent time management and organizational skills and ability to adapt to shifting priorities.

Understand how environmental issues integrate within the larger context of local government priorities and core services.

Oversee the organization and/or attend events related to climate initiatives, or partnerships.

Working level knowledge of current City word processing, spreadsheet and related specialty software.

Facilitate public meetings and workshops; deliver presentations.

Compose and present proposals, reports and policies.

Read and interpret technical information, policies and legislation.

Deal effectively with the public and outside agencies.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Represent the City to the public and outside agencies.

Listen and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Work independently or as part of a team.

QUALIFICATIONS

Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification:
University undergraduate degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science or Studies, Marketing and Communications, Public Administration, or related field (4 years).

Additional relevant training or certification an asset.

Experience:

2-3 years of experience in environmental/climate field with relevant experience in community and stakeholder engagement and collaboration,

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER:

May be requested to substitute in a more senior position.

Experience in a local government or public institution setting is an asset.

Work schedule:
Monday to Friday, (35 hour work week)


$48.98 per hour, Pay Grade 15
