Working in an assisted living environment that supports and promotestenant wellness and independence, the Director of Care is responsible for ensuring highquality delivery of personal assistance and hospitality services designed to maintain independence and maximize the abilities of tenants at Millennium Towers.
This includes planning, administering, and overseeing the daily operations of assisted living services (personal assistance, hospitality services, and social/recreational/volunteer services) for tenants, ongoing support and supervision of staff, volunteers and contracted services.
In addition, the Director of Care ensures compliance with Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Assisted Living Regulation (RCR).
Furthermore, the roles provides general clinical oversight to two licensed staffed residential homes – one in North Vancouver and one in Coquitlam – funded by Community living BC (CLBC – a Crown Corporation).
Scope includes supporting compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA) and the Residential Care Regulation (RCR).In consultation with the Regional Director, the Director of Care is responsible for the overall management of Saint Elizabeth Assisted Living Services at Millennium Towers.
Participates in the development and implementation of all aspects of an Assisted Living Program (personal assistance, hospitality services, and social/recreational/volunteer services) that meets the needs of tenants and the funding agent, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH).
Participates in the development of policies and procedures to support operations.Is familiar with the CCALA and ALR, including its operation, policies and procedures, quality assurance requirements and financial controls and ensures that agency priorities meet VCH expectations.
Participates in the development and implements agency policies and procedures necessary for the effective management of assisted living operations.
Completes resident monthly reconciliation and bank deposits.Assists clients to connect and work with an accountant to ensure timely completion of resident annual tax returns
Ensures high quality service delivery to tenants by:
Consulting regularly with VCH staff, Licensed Practical Nurses and Assisted Living workers with respect to the development, maintenance and updating of tenant service plans.
Overseeing the development of and administering, together with the Activity Coordinator, an active social, recreational, and volunteer program for residents.
Ensuring that contracted services are delivered according to tenant needs and appropriate standards.Monitor inventory and supervise procurement of food, equipment, cleaning supplies, etc.
Through effective coaching and performance management, ensures adequate staffing levels by:
Provides leadership and direction to all staff, coordinates two-way communication and engagement with clinical staff and interdisciplinary team.
Scheduling, monitoring, supervising and evaluating the work performance of all front line staff; identifying and addressing discipline and training needs as required.
Completes timekeeping in Procura to support payroll export from PeopleSoft.Conducting standardized, thorough orientation and on-the-job training for all new employees.
Evaluating performance and conducting evaluation interviews on a regular basis and as outlined in agency policies and procedures.
Liaises with and works cooperatively with VCH staff, Columbus Charities Association (CCA), community service providers and other stakeholders to ensure effective, high-quality provision of services for tenants.
Assumes an active role in problem-solving with tenants, tenants' family members, VCH and other community organizations.Works collaboratively with the local community pharmacy, Licensed Practical Nurses and Assisted Living staff to develop and administer a medication management system for tenants requiring these services.
Works collaboratively with the local community to expand and incorporate existing community resources into the programs at Millennium.Implementation of a continuous quality improvement process to ensure tenant, staff, volunteer and stakeholder satisfaction.
Develops and monitors key performance indicators designed to evaluate and measure program outcomes.
Conducts regular tenant satisfaction surveys.
Ensures appropriate response to critical incidents, emergencies and urgent changes in tenants' health status.
Develops and implements risk management strategies such as Disaster and Fire planning, thus allowing tenants, staff and volunteers the opportunity to practice emergency safety procedures.
Flexibility to be on call afterhours and weekends, inclusive of Millennium Tower and support for 2 additional SE facilities in the Lower MainlandBachelor's Degree in nursing; Masters in a related field preferred, from a recognized college or university
Minimum 5 years management experience preferably in healthcare and geriatric setting
Experience managing an Assisted Living home preferred
Previous financial management experience.
Demonstrated evidence of clinical knowledge and practical skills in providing care to residents and direction to staff;
Vehicle with valid BC Driver's license with business insurance coverage.
High standards for customer service, food safety, physical space & environmental cleanliness.
Solid understanding of infection control protocol.
Demonstrated effective planning, time management and organizational skills.
Solid working knowledge of related office equipment and Windows based software.
