We are currently hiring for a Manager, Government Relations (Manitoba).

The Manager, Government Relations (Manitoba) will advocate on behalf of credit unions in the province of Manitoba with governments at all levels.

Build and maintain relationships with government leaders, members, and sector partners to benefit and strengthen the credit union sector.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Deliverables and Main Supporting Activities:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with credit unions and collaborate with Credit Union Central of Manitoba

Build and maintain strong relationships with Manitoba Central and credit unions across the region in order to strengthen the advocacy agenda.


  • Identify and provide opportunities for credit unions to provide input on emerging issues.
  • Present government relations items at credit union sector meetings.
  • Liaise with regional credit union groups, attend meetings, and events
  • Act as the primary point of contact for members in the region/province.
  • Regional government relations management
In consultation with Manitoba Central's CEO and CCUA's Regional Director, GR (SK & MB) manage CCUA's government relations strategies and activities in the region/province

  • Monitor legislative, regulatory and political activities to identify issues of consequence to credit unions.
  • Foster relationships with federal and provincial legislators to enhance awareness of the economic importance of the credit union sector in order to advance credit union objectives.
  • Develop submissions on behalf of the credit union sector that will influence public policy, legislation, government program development, and regulation. Some of these submissions are in response to government consultations and some are proactive in response to government policy.
  • Create networking opportunities or leverage existing events so that credit union representatives can meet with key legislators.
  • Enhance regional grassroots advocacy support
Promote and develop the grassroots government relations capacity within the region.

  • Work with CCUA's National Advocacy Lead to ensure CCUA's national advocacy strategies are implemented within the region.
  • Design regional advocacy strategies to advance credit union priorities at the provincial level.
  • Liaise with credit union representatives to influence their participation in CCUA's national and provincial advocacy activities, such as letterwriting campaigns, meetings with local elected representatives, and promoting government relations issues within their communities and credit unions.
  • Work with staff at regional credit union centrals and member credit unions to promote the consistent delivery of CCUA's government relations strategies, tactics and messaging.
  • Prepare regional advocacy materials and briefing notes for credit unions to use with legislators and external stakeholders to increase awareness of credit unions' social and economic impact.
  • Recommend allocation of CCUA's Resources for the province
  • Plan, develop, and implement government relations initiatives to advance the interests and awareness of credit unions and their issues with the provincial and federal governments.
  • Recommend deliverables and budget for consultants.
  • In consultation with the Regional Director, GR (SK& MB) develop and recommend regional operating budgets.
Communication

Internal:

  • Communication with the CEO of Manitoba Central and CCUA's Regional Director, GR (SK & MB) and peers to problem solve and determine best courses of action.

External:

  • Communication with credit unions and the provincial central to understand their concerns and priorities and build broad consensus when developing initiatives.
  • Communication with legislators, regulators, stakeholders, and sector partners to increase their awareness of the credit union sector and achieve positive policy outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (public policy, public administration, business, law)
Experience

  • 5 years of relevant political, government relations, or public policy experience
Qualifications, Certifications or Designations

  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Indepth understanding of how governments function
  • Ability to write, research and produce correspondence,
