The Centre for Student Engagement at the University of Toronto Mississauga is committed to creating inclusive learning environments to cultivate holistic student development.

Built through meaningful collaboration and informed by research and assessment our campus & community based programs, services and resources promote access to post-secondary education, support transition intoand retention through university and encourages student engagement and community engaged learning.

With over 90 opportunities led by 160 student leaders and professional staff, the Centre for Student Engagement believes that student involvement is a powerful tool to support an individual's navigation of the post-secondary environment and to feel empowered to contribute and make an impact within their community.


The Student Engagement Coordinator, Transition Coaching reporting to the Assistant Director, Access & Transition, assumes primary responsibility for programs that offer one-on-one and peer coaching that aims to equip students with strategies and skills for improving their transition experience and academic skills through the development of resiliency, effective habits, goal setting, and resource utilization.

The cornerstone programs of this portfolio include the Transition Coaching Program which utilizes a transition vulnerability index to outreach and provide transition coaching tonew to UTM students and Grad Connect, a mentorship program that pairs an upper-year student with a grad or post-grad student mentor to support their planning for graduate school.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising students on cocurricular, academic and personal matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
  • Training and coaching students on realistic goal setting and time management skills
  • Screening and making referrals to academic advising and learning skills programs and other resources or services
  • Writing case notes after a client meeting
  • Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or cocurricular programs and activities
  • Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives
  • Monitoring accounts for a project and/or program

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Humanities, Social Sciences, Science or related discipline or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years of student development programming, coaching or advising specifically working in a postsecondary education setting.
  • Experience coaching a diverse student population and facilitating group programming and individualized learning with an emphasis on goal setting and transition activities.
  • Expertise and knowledge of best practices in student transition, learning skill development, and program development.
  • Experience with evaluation and research tools, and demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize data.
  • Supervision of student staff with proven ability to lead, coach, train and motivate.
  • Experience managing a budget.
  • Highly collaborative, with proven ability to work collegially with students, faculty, and staff
