The incumbent works Monday and Tuesday (approx.

8:30am - 5:00pm). Travel to Midland will be required.


Reporting to the Direct, Clinics & Placement Office, the incumbent's role is to reinforce learning of students in the Occupational Therapist & Physiotherapist (OPTA) program while carrying out treatment plans in a long-term care (LTC) setting under the direction and supervision of a Georgian College Occupational Therapist (OT).

The incumbent will have a clear understanding of program learning outcomes and be able to not only support students towards meeting those outcomes but also provide timely verbal and/or written feedback using strong communication skills and program specific tools.

The incumbent will be a strong team player who has a history of demonstrating leadership and collaboration skills in the clinical setting.

The incumbent is responsible to maintain relationships/linkages with Placement sites as she/he are the on-site College representative.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Assists students with the provision of occupational therapy services as delegated by the Registered Occupational Therapists by:

  • Working with students in providing and delivering safe and appropriate care to patients
  • Working with students in the delivery of care plans as delegated by the Registered OT
  • Supporting students in the completion of documentation on patient and services received in an electronic medical records (EMR) system
  • Working with members of the health care team, the students, clients and their families, and medical staff to support student learning in a collaborative care model
  • Utilizing set educational guidelines (i.e. course outlines, program handbooks etc.), policies and procedures of the clinical agency and Georgian College, and Guidelines for Professional Standards as per the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Working collaboratively with the Registered OT as well as others in the clinical setting (i.e. patients, nurses, etc.) to support an effective and studentcentered learning environment
  • Provides orientation for students to the clinical placement site and respective Policies & Procedures as dictated by the longterm care home
  • Provides opportunities for skill development/remediation as appropriate or as required under the direction of the OT
  • Identifies and works collaboratively with the OT and Faculty to identify and provide additional support to students who are struggling to meet learning outcomes.

Provides feedback to the Registered OT on both students' performance and client progress by:

  • Sharing judgements with regard to students' ability to perform and provide client services
  • Recording observations on student clinical performance and client progress
  • Seeking input from clinical agency staff when there is an incident or area of concern regarding a student's performance and/or client issues.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successfully completed a twoyear diploma in Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant
  • A minimum of one year of experience providing patient care as an OTA in any setting
  • Demonstrated communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills to respond to inquiries and provide guidance and / or assistance to others
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and problemsolving skills with the ability to make daytoday decisions as required
  • Experience in a leadership capacity
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
