What you'll do

Responsibilities

As a member of the School of Technology and Environment faculty team, you will:

Provide theoretical and practical instruction in the IT Web Programming program, instructing 4 hours/week in addition to supporting students. Teach 1 second-year course- Web Design Fundamentals, which builds on student learning in a first-year course (which focused on introducing Internet technologies and providing a foundation for the design and implementation of web sites, and client-side scripting) with a greater focus on presentation and usability. Collaboratively design and deliver educational experiences for a diverse group of learners. This will include preparation, instruction, assessment, and evaluation of students using a broad range of flexible teaching and learning practices and technologies such as Learning Management Systems (e.g., Brightspace) and classroom technology. Ensure health and safety practices and procedures are followed in your classroom, shops, and labs. Maintain currency with the latest industry practices relevant to your program and to continually develop your understanding of 21st century teaching and learning practices. This position may involve different delivery modalities (e.g., in-class, online, blended online/in-class), off-site instruction and alternate work hours such as weekends and evenings. Related duties include upholding NSCC policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant college diploma or university degree in IT Web Programming, IT Programming, Computer Science or related field. You have a minimum of five years (full-time equivalent) of related industry experience in IT. Occupational experience that includes teaching and/or supervision in IT or related field. You have specific technical occupational knowledge and skill in the following:Experience developing websites or web applications with a focus on User Interface / User ExperienceHTML / CSSCSS Frameworks / Libraries like Bootstrap / TailwindKnowledge of developing Websites / Web Applications that are compliant to W3C standardsFigma or industry equivalent (UX /UI design tool) You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suitesome JavaScript (not in major depth)some knowledge of accessibility websites / web applications (WCAG)experience auditing a website for usability using industry tools (Lighthouse) Additionally valuable skills that would be assets include:Experience in self-directed learning, monitoring projects and supporting students/employees in managing projects. This includes:Conducting regular check-in meetings and managing personality and delivery issues as they arise.Setting content delivery deadlines and assisting others in setting those deadlines.Assisting in the creation of schedules using industry standard tools, project scope and other project management documents.Modeling and providing feedback on professionalism expectations such as regular communication, meeting deadlines and appropriate behaviours. You have demonstrated experience liaising with business and industry in your field. You are innovative and committed to life-long learning. Your desire and enthusiasm to teach students with diverse backgrounds and knowledge, along with your superb presentation, interpersonal and team building skills make you an ideal candidate. Ideally, you have related experience in delivery of educational programs or training to adults. Occupational experience that includes experience in providing performance feedback will be considered an asset. You have knowledge and experience in applying WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety and occupation-specific safety practices. Understanding of Mac Computers would be an asset as it allows this course to use a Mac lab and give IT students some Mac experience
