POSITION SUMMARY:

The Simcoe County District School Board is looking for qualified candidates to join as Summer Learning Program teachers. Reporting to the Summer Learning Program Coordinator and Site Supervisor, the ideal candidate will be dedicated to assisting students in Grades 4 to 8 who would benefit from extra help with assistive technology (AT) to succeed. Through interactive learning activities, this one-week SEA program will provide direct instruction for SCDSB students with AT equipment and a learning profile indicative of a learning disability.

This summer, the Summer Learning Programs will offer in-person and online formats. All educational staff, including Summer Learning Program teachers, will work in-person to support students and educators at Terry Fox Elementary School (Barrie) and the Barrie Learning Center. The SEA programs will be exclusively conducted in person.

Teachers will teach a single class in the mornings, based on student enrollment.

SCHEDULE FOR THE SEA PROGRAM:
  • Mandatory training sessions on July 4 and 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Summer Learning Program from July 8 to 26, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Junior or intermediate Ontario College of Teachers qualifications
  • Preference given to existing SCDSB teachers with special education certifications
KEY COMPETENCIES:
  • Proficiency in integrating technology into teaching
  • Thorough understanding of pedagogy, especially in supporting students with special needs in using AT
  • Collaborative approach and teamwork
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SEA TEACHERS:
  • Deliver direct instruction to SCDSB elementary students on AT usage
  • Implement effective student assessment methods
  • Enhance curriculum content with tailored instructional strategies to boost engagement and learning
  • Familiarity with the board-approved virtual learning environment (e.g., Google Classroom)

All teaching positions are subject to student enrollment.

20. In addition to the duties assigned to the teacher under the Act and by the board, a teacher shall:
